Who: Remus Lupin and Sirius Black
What: ~~pre-date date~~ stroll around Hogsmeade during the hols
Where: Hogsmeade
When: day after this
Why: because Sirius will lose his mind if he doesn't get away from his family

Hogsmeade was as busy as he thought it'd be. Last minute Christmas shoppers and workers shuffled to and fro, crowding the streets and jostling Remus whenever they got the chance. So much for holiday cheer, Remus thought, as he hastily side-stepped a rather disgruntled looking woman that bowled past him, her shopping bags swinging down her arms.

He tucked himself a little more snugly within his coat and scarf, and couldn't help the relieved sigh coming from his lips as the Leaky Cauldron moved into view. His parents were iffy at first, but after much convincing (and begging) they decided Remus was old enough to walk around on his own. About bloody time, he had thought, but wisely kept it just to himself.

It was a lot warmer stepping into the cozy Inn, so he loosened his scarf just a smidgen. He looked around, wondering if maybe Sirius had already beat him to getting there.

As if on cue, the moment he had been on his way to sneaking out through the fireplace in the study of 12 Grimmauld Place, his mother had come looking for him. It took him an extra fifteen minutes to get her off his back for good and he finally grabbed the floo powder off the mantle and made his way to the inn.

Stepping out of the fireplace, he felt free already. "This is brilliant..." He smiled to himself as he walked out into the room and soon after spotted Remus at a table. He grinned as he slid onto the seat across from him. "Moony! Can't tell you how good it is to see you."

	Remus's smile was dry as he lifted his head to catch sight of a soot-covered Sirius grinning at him. "You're just saying that because I saved you from your family," he replied in his usual wry tone when it came to dealing with Sirius. He gestured towards his friend's being. 	"What, I can't be glad to see my friend?" Sirius rolled his eyes at the boy across from him and then looked down at his coat when Remus pointed out he was dirty. "Hm, bloody floo." Remus conveniently looked away as his friend righted himself, suddenly finding an old ink spot on the table very interesting.

"Christmas shoppers are ruddy awful," he offered breezily. "But that's a given, I guess."

He glanced up then, only to berate himself and immediately glance back down. It was harder to forget his little crush when Sirius was smiling at him like that.

Sirius shrugged and looked around for a waiter - he could definitely go for a warm butterbeer right now. After waving one over, he looked back at Remus. "Still up for that cocoa I offered?" It was subtle, but Sirius noticed the little change in his friend at the mention of cocoa. The things chocolate did to that kid...Sirius had to stop himself from laughing aloud a bit at the thought.

After ordering the chocolate drink and his butterbeer, Sirius turned back to Remus.

"So how was your brilliantly normal Christmas? I want to hear all the tiny insignificant details."

"Er." Remus honestly didn't know what to tell him. "We.. skipped the tree this year?" he offered, and absently began to play with the napkin set aside on their table. "Dad said it was too much of a hassle, which I have to admit is a bit true, but still.." He shrugged, trailing off when he remembered the way his mum grew so tight-lipped over it. He had no doubt they'd probably fought about it before he came home.

Remus perked up at the mention of a book from Asia. "Could I have a look at it, you think?" he tried to sound as nonchalant about it as possible, but it was hard-- a charms book from Asia, how exciting!

Their drinks arrived then, and Remus eagerly took up the simmering mug from the waitress. It was warm in his hands, and the steam wafted up right into his nostrils. It was absolutely divine.

"So what was the plan today, Monsieur Padfoot?" he asked, lifting the mug up to lightly blow at the steam. "It's your day of freedom-- you get to decide."

	Sirius chuckled. "Yeah, of course you can. I'll have it at school with me." He gladly took his butterbeer and took a drink before answering Remus. Remus couldn't help but frown slightly. He always appreciated a good prank or two, sure, but he knew first hand that sometimes Sirius got a little carried away with things, and he honestly didn't want his friend to get into any trouble with his family, no matter how much they deserve to get pranked on..

"Just be careful," he murmured, before finally taking a sip of his cocoa. "Like you better in one piece, remember?"
