"Can you," Tristan asked, clearing his throat a bit - rather more amused by Lyra's reaction than embarrassed. She knew the man, clearly, and if he had known he might not have chosen to come somewhere where her friends were staffing the counter, but ... it was all right. Under any other circumstances, he might even have said yes to the reading.
"I used to think it was all so much rubbish," he admitted, waving away her apology with a slightly shy smile. "But - I don't know. I've spent quite a lot of time researching trees - wandlore, mostly - and ... there are a lot of things in magic that aren't just calling out a spell and seeing results, aren't there. A lot of it's - slower. Harder to see. I haven't tried gone back to Divination in a long time, but I think it must be the same kind of thing."
