"I love you too," she said softly, balancing Gabe on her hip so she could circle her arm around Remus's waist for a few brief seconds. "Be safe. Gabe and I'll both make sure to leave some ice cream for you, won't we?"
Gabe grinned, showing off his missing tooth, and Tonks laughed, even though it was a little forced.
"See you in the morning," she returned. It was best to act like this wasn't any real big deal; it would be better for Gabe that way, or at least she hoped it would be. Making a fuss would only worry and stress him, and that was the last thing she wanted.
After their final goodbyes, she headed back to the Floo to take Gabe home. "I got a fresh tub of ice cream especially for tonight," she said to her son, nuzzling his cheek. "It's got bits of fudge and sweets mixed into chocolate ice cream."
