Nervous wouldn’t have been something Kirley considered himself at that moment. Tense, irritable, and unenthusiastic...those were good descriptors, but he figured Oliver would be nervous enough for the both of them. It was probably for good reason, but it seemed like Meghan’s boyfriends, almost every one that she’d had, were always jumpy around him. Normally, he wasn’t such a scary guy, but protecting his little sister had always made him infinitely more intimidating.
He watched with seeming disinterest when Oliver arrived and sat down at the table with him. From his position lounging a bit in his chair, Kirley arched an eyebrow at the newcomer’s statement and brought his cigarette momentarily away from his lips, “We’re conspicuous no matter what we do in public.”
It was certainly true. Kirley rarely got to go anywhere without people asking him for his autograph, and putting the two of them together was really asking for it...he thought even he sunglasses ‘disguise’ was better than just right out showing their faces though. He straightened up slightly and took a drink, fighting the urge to cross his arms over his chest disapprovingly, “So...I suppose we’re going to be good as family, eh?” He silently added a ‘like it or not’ for his own amusement, but he figured he’d at least be ‘civil’, as Oliver had put it over the journals, and keep that bit to himself.
