Jae hadn't heard Teagan opening her bedroom door or her making her way out to the kitchen until she spoke. It startled him out of reaching for his bag, before he turned his gaze on her. "It's relaxing," he said in defense of his behaviour. "I thought you were asleep." He almost sounded accusing at that moment, but only because she had sneaked up on him whatever her intention.
Again, he made a move to pick up his satchel, this time his hand steady as he grabbed the strap and moved to pull it onto his shoulder. "It's late. Why aren't you asleep?"
His gaze briefly settled on a patch of bare shoulder her robe was revealing, before moving to settle on her face. He didn't even realize he had done it or that he had been staring at Teagan a little longer than usual these past few weeks. Why would he? It was just Teagan.
And he liked men, when he wasn't off being asexual.
