The noise woke Verity instantly and she grabbed for her wand, getting tangled in her blankets as she flailed. Her heart was pounding in her ears and it took a moment before she could hear the sound of a familiar voice over it. "Fuck," she muttered, sagging in relief.
Kicking the blankets off, she climbed out of bed and wrenched her pyjamas into place before crossing the room. Kneeling on the cushioned window seat, Verity yanked open the curtains. Sure enough, it was her cousin's face smushed against her window and she flicked the glass where his nose was, then pushed the window open. "Trev..." she twisted around and glanced at the clock, then turned back to her cousin. "It's after two." She paused and tried to swallow a yawn. "And you were complaining about me being irritating."
