A/N: This was due yesterday. My apologies for the lateness and all around crappiness.
In the space of a year, Hyrule's landscape had taken on drastic changes. Link chose to walk this day, opting to hold tightly to Epona's reins as he lead her down a worn path through familiar territory. It was still rather difficult for him to grasp that it had been a year since he rode away from Ordon. Away from a life he had once known and promptly decided was no longer suiting his needs.
During his time with Midna, he had tasted adventure. And he craved more.
Yet, homesickness managed to creep it's way into his life and into his mind and during his time in the rest of the world, he often found that his mind wandered back to the goings on in Hyrule. How was Ilia? And the rest of Ordon? Was Colin sticking to his training routine Link had showed him before his departure?
And Hena? How was she? It had been so long since he had set foot in the fishing hole and so he made this his first destination as opposed to visiting Ordon. He would return to his home soon, hopefully with Hena by his side.
He toyed nervously with the doorknob leading to the fishing hole before pushing open the door. It was strangely silent and Link wondered if Hena were here at all. He took a step forward and made a move to call for her. That was when he heard the humming. It was gentle and low and soft. Link found it's source. Hena sat on the dock, a bobber fishing pole in hand and her legs dipped beneath the cool water.
The song she hummed made Link's mouth curl into a soft smile. It was familiar, a song from his childhood. Epona loved it and it seemed to calm her down. “I hadn't realized you listen to me when I played that for her,” said Link softly as he settled beside her.
Hena gasped and whipped her head in his direction. “Link!”
Tossing her pole to the side, the young woman threw her arms about Link's neck, laughing gleefully and hugging him to her. The pair hugged for ages on end before Hena finally pulled away and smiled up at him. “I-I...it's been so long. How have you been?” she asked.
“Homesick most recently,” he replied as he started out over the lake. The sun shone brightly this day, causing the water to glow with a gem like beauty.
Hena nodded. “Did you miss anyone in particular?”
“I did.”
“Who?”
“You.” He looked at her then, another smile gracing his lips. Hena laughed at him and playfully punched his shoulder.
“You don't have to flatter me, Link.”
“I mean it. I really missed you. It's been too long. I should've wrote you.”
“Well I agree with that. Missed knowing what was going on with you,” she said, pulling her legs out of the water. Link reached for her hand and laced his fingers with hers.
“Hena...I just...”
“I understand. You got your life to live and I want you to live it. Just wish there were room for..me. Maybe.”
Link smiled again. “Hey you got any of that honey tea? It's always so good.”
Hena laughs and tugs him toward her cottage. “Of course. I'll make a special pot just for you. You can tell me what you've been up to for the past year.”
He stands to follow her, pressing his palm to hers and following her into her home. If she was what he was coming home to, he would always look forward to coming home.
