Pain, loss, death, guilt, emotional torture - well, these things tend to change a man, even one who's not quite a man at all. Hundreds of years spent playing by the rules laid down by his people, people who are now dead and gone whilst the Doctor lives on, trying to maintain their order. No more. He's a Time Lord after all, isn't he? Seems time rather ought to be working for him. And he's going to make sure it does; after all, there's nothing he can't do.
