Fan's Eric
The Master came to De Final, soon after sun down, the evening after River came back home. In his hat and gloves, which was a sign on his caution and tentative respect for Eric's formidableness, not that Eric would necessarily have the context to put that together.

Exercising god like powers over the weather and playing with the(a) Doctor had vastly improved his mood, and he remained smugly satisfied at the rain that kept drizzling between the buildings.

Still, but he was more thoughtful than anything else. He had questions for Eric.

Eric was actually standing in the street, not minding in the least the fact that he was steadily getting soaked. The only sign he had paid attention to the rain before walking out of De Final was that he was only in pants and a wifebeater. There was no reason to soak through more item of clothes than absolutely necessary.

It was welcome rain, however, but he was not so focused on it that he did not see the Master approaching. He'd expected this, and waited for the alien to speak, or make his move.

"River likes you," he told Eric, without preamble.

Eric smirked. "And I like her." He invited the Master into De Final with an extended arm towards the door, but not a word.

"The rain isn't bothering me, if you're enjoying it. What does liking her mean to you?"

Eric lowered his arm to his side. "Nothing."

She was human, for all that she was interesting. He was curious about her.

He tilted his head and smiled again. "I'll let her feed me any time she wants."

"Not exactly a benefit to her," he pointed out, expression not betraying how he actually felt about that.

"Any time she wants," Eric repeated easily.

"Do you?" Eric questioned just as evenly, sliding his hands in his pockets.

He shook his head slightly. "Perhaps not. Let me be clear. River's well being is one of primary concerns."

"She mentioned as much, yes," Eric answered. "She also mentioned being able to take her own decisions." He smiled, coldly. "If it can reassure you, she wasn't anywhere near as reckless as your boy."

And entirely more entrancing beside.

"I'm sure Brant would laugh if you heard him described as such." For so many reason. "River is not quite of age, and not always lucid." Pause. "She was *surprisingly* lucid when she spoke about you."

The smirk came back. She'd been quite lucid after a couple minutes' conversation. "Maybe I'm good for her."

Not quite of age, yet entirely more mature than the Master's boy. Yes, he would keep calling Brant that whether it might make him laugh or not.

Eric had stepped into something complicated not quite settled, with Brant and the Master.

"Whether or not that's true is what I'm trying to assess, yes."

Eric could care less what he did or did not step into.

"And how are you going to do that?" He was mildly curious.

"What would words mean?" Eric was going to be disappointed in the Master if he thought talking to him would enlighten him.

"And I don't care for you to trust me," Eric answered, and ostentatiously shrugged, hands still in his drenched pockets. "You're at an impasse."

"She is free to do as she wants, as far as I am concerned." He wasn't. Concerned. She was determined enough, when she had set her mind on something. A day had been more than enough for him to realise that.

Eric's eyebrows did raise at that. An admission: yes, he was surprised.

"Impressive. I was just thinking I hadn't seen it rain since I got here."

"Storms are chaotic systems, and I know managing storms. It's all about setting up what's properly attractive."

He didn't expect Eric to get the mathematical pun, or the inside joke about having practice in managing the Doctor.

Eric didn't know much of anything about mathematics. And had never heard of the Doctor's nickname.

"What do you expect to get from me right now?" Eric asked, rather than reply to a statement he was not interested in. He was curious about why the Master was still talking to him. About storms.

"And..." Eric tilted his head to the side, trying to wrap his mind around the idea, but could only smile. "Am I supposed to promise I will do her no harm?"

It was ludicrous. For one thing, he would have needed to be able to understand what harm meant to her.

"I'm not the sort to stand within fifty feet of such a promise," Eric replied, since that had been too much of an understatement for his liking. "Since you know it, once again. What do you expect to get from me right now?"

[info]themasterreborn

"You could always surprise me," he told Eric. "I do not like making threats anymore. It is tiresome, and so often pointless. However, I expect you to understand that if you damage her long term physical and mental well being, I will turn my will to making you regret it."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]the_northman
2009-10-21 03:09 pm UTC (link)
"Yes," Eric agreed, and smiled. Not a pleasant smile. "As I'm sure you'll understand that in this place, threats are of even less avail than they would be in my world. Thank you for the rain."

A very fake thank you, a very real goodbye.

There was only so far Eric could run here, and he was reasonably sure that decapitation would at least banish Eric from this place. Not that he was about to try it.

He nodded stepped back.

Eric watched him go, vampire still in the drizzling rain.
