Current mood: | cold |
The wind whipped around, causing Fred to stumble a bit. She did her best to hold the tablet up to get the readings they needed for the experiment Rodney was doing. As another gust of wind hit her, it's coldness cutting through her jacket, she cursed. She was going to kill Rodney McKay. First she was going to torture him, then throw him outside in the cold. Damn bastard couldn't do his own work because he was afraid of catching a cold.
Once the readings were complete, Fred went back inside and shrugged her jacket off, leaving her blue fleece on since it was still a little chilly inside. She started toward one of the labs but stopped when she saw Daniel.
"Where's Sam? I wanted to ask her something," she said.
Daniel brightly blushed and sheepishly shrugged. "Um, I'm not sure," he said before looking down at the book in his hands. "Last I saw of her, she was talking to Rodney."
"Thanks," Fred said. She started to walk off but stopped. "Oh, and Daniel? Your fleece is inside out."
When Daniel blushed again, Fred smirked. Anyone with two eyes would know Sam and him were together. She turned around, about to go to the lab, when she spotted Rodney in the Chair room, berating poor Carson about something.
"You're a dead man, McKay," she said as she shoved the tablet at him after walking into the room.
"I'm sure it wasn't that bad out there," Rodney said in a condescending manner.
Fred just ignored him and decided to take a break in order to warm up. So after saying she would come back and spend some time in the Chair, she walked off and went to the living quarters in the Ancient outpost. She pushed open the door and flopped down on the bed.
"Why am I here?" she muttered to herself before she pulled the blanket over her body.
Fred knew the answer. She was there because this was a chance of a lifetime. For years she had known there was life out there, and being part of this expedition confirmed it. Besides, she had nothing else. Her husband had left her and her parents were gone. Being in the Antarctica seemed like the best place at the moment and she did have the Ancient gene, which was needed there.
And being there wasn't that bad. Rodney was Rodney but there were actually some very nice people there. Carson, Cait, Sam, Daniel, and Radek just to name a few. They canceled out whatever Rodney and his ego did.
She was about to kick the blanket off and find some hot tea to drink when she heard commotion coming from the main part of the outpost. Something had been fired off? Furrowing her brow, Fred quickly got up and left her room but by the time she got up there, everything was back to normal.
"What happened?" she asked Grodin.
"Carson was in the chair and shot something off at General O'Neill's helicopter but he got it to stop," he said.
Fred turned and looked where Carson was standing. Caitlin was standing next to him, obviously trying to calm him. Just then, the doors opened and two men came in, and Daniel rushed over to them.
"Good to see you, Jack," he said, shaking the older man's hand.
"Quite a welcome," Jack said as Fred moved over to them.
"Yeah. Sorry about that," Daniel said before he glanced at Fred. "Fred, this is General Jack O'Neill and Jack, this is Doctor Burkle. She heads up the science and research department with Doctor McKay."
"McKay, huh? Sorry about that," Jack said as he shook Fred's hand. He then motioned toward the other man. "This is Major Sheppard."
"Nice to meet you," Fred said to Jack before she turned her attention to Major Sheppard. She stared at him for a moment. He looked so familiar. Had he been there before? Shaking her head, she held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you, too, Major Sheppard."
