Kyri laughed when Marie hugged them, telling them that the baby just had to be a girl. She decided not to mention that Evan had already been calling her that. Might as well leave something for her to find out later.
Soon, they were sitting in the kitchen, having dinner. Kyri felt her stomach rumble when she smelled the food but found herself watching in amusement when Evan started serving himself, only to be scolded by his mother. Reaching over, she rubbed her hand up and down his arm while put food on her plate before then serving his mother and himself. Once they all had their food, Kyri picked up her fork and started eating.
"This is delicious, Mrs--Mom," Kyri told her. "I don't think I've had it made quite like this before."
"Oh, it's old family recipe. One of Evan and Anna's favorites when they were growing up. Did your parents have any recipes they liked to make for you?"
Kyri swallowed and shook her head. "They...they both died when I was very young," she said.
Marie looked at her for a moment, obviously upset that she had brought up a painful memory for her, before reaching over and taking her hand in hers. "Then I'll have to share mine with you."
