Caitlin's body started to tremble as she ran her tongue over the tips of her fangs. She didn't want them, and suddenly they were gone again. Caitlin wanted to point out she was all right but Kade seemed to think differently. As he spoke, his words seemed to blend together and she could hear Rodney's heart racing. And when he yelled, she jumped a little and buried her face against Carson's chest.
The change she had been feeling for days now finally made sense. She was no longer human but Sangui, and she didn't understand what it meant. Would she be allowed to stay in Atlantis, or would she have to leave? She remembered how the IOA made her dad leave the Stargate program after he'd been infected by the Replicators. And what were CT and her dad going to think? What about the children and her friends? Were they going to end up shunning her?
As Kade continued to speak, Caitlin closed her eyes. She remembered everything Kade had ever told them about the Sanguis. They never fed from their offspring, which made her feel better. However, she would have to feed a few times a week, and she could never go back to Earth since the Sangui was highly allergic to Earth's sun.
Suddenly, Carson was cupping her face and Caitlin blinked when she realized Rodney and Kade were gone. She looked into her husband's eyes and nodded. "It's not your fault. I...you were just trying to save my life. Don't be upset, Carson. I-I can smell it on you." She then looked at the door. "I think Rodney's mad. I just feel comfortable with you. Even before all of this happened...I know that's awful but I've loved you the longest and..." She trailed off and looked at her husband again. She placed her hand to his neck, shuddering when she sensed his blood once again.
"Carson...I think I need to feed," Caitlin whispered as her fangs slid out again.
