"I told her, and Latro to stay here while I went to the Gate," Evan said as he roughly rubbed his face. If anything had happened to her, he would never be able to forgive himself.
"It doesn't look like anyone broke in," Daniel said as he examined the door.
Just then gunfire could be heard in the distance. Evan's eyes widened, and he rushed toward the door. "I gave Kyri my handgun," he said as he hurried out the door, and started to run toward the sound.
"Evan!" came Latro's voice.
"Where's Kyri?" Evan asked when he saw the older man was alone. "What happened to her?"
Latro frowned. "They got her. I am sorry. I thought she was behind me," he said.
Evan felt his mouth go dry, and his heart started to pound against his rib cage. "Who has her?" he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
"Some of them were Sangui," Latro told him.
Looking forward, Evan noticed the body on the ground, and ran to it. When he got to it, he used his foot to turn it over, growling when he saw who it was. "Genii," he said before he looked at Latro. "They've done this before, haven't they?"
"Yes."
"We should've killed these fuckers when we had the chance to," he said before kicking the body. He then turned and looked Latro. "Did you see which way she went?"
