Evan watched Kyri as she watched the message. He hated knowing this was hurting her. And a small part of him hated Michaela for doing this to them. "I know," he quietly said after Kyri had listened to the message. He moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her body.
"It's not us, hon," he told her before placing a soft kiss on the top of her head. "It's Mike. She's been like this since I met her. She likes the companionship but the moment it starts to go beyond that, she calms up and runs the other way. I really thought she was changing and she would be able to feel for us what we feel for her."
Taking a deep breath, Evan looked out onto the ocean and watched as the waves rolled across it. "I'm sorry," he finally said as he turned and looked at Kyri. "I feel like I should've said something before this happened. Deep down I knew this was going to happen, but didn't say anything because I didn't want to hurt either of you."
Evan sighed and pulled Kyri closer to him. He rested his cheek on top of her head and looked out onto the ocean again. He loved Kyri, and he knew it was time to tell her. "You know I love you, right? And we can get through this together. That is if you still want me," he said.
