John stood rooted to the spot for a moment as Sam explained what had happened, his stomach dropping and his throat tightening. He had known that Fred was upset, but he had never expected this. And Ronon. Oh, God...
"Has someone told Ronon?" he asked Sam.
"Carson went to find him."
John knew that Carson probably had the best chance of keeping Ronon calm at the news, so it was good that he was the one that had gone. Looking over at Daniel, he nodded when he said he'd help him.
"Yeah, let's go," he said when Daniel asked if he wanted to head down now. Turning to his wife, he embraced her tightly. "I will."
He didn't know if he was answering one or both of her questions. He hoped both. For Ronon's sake.
"Come on," he said to Daniel.
They hurried down to the underwater bay and got in the boat, where John did a quick pre-launch check before heading out into the ocean. It didn't take them long to get to the marine biology station, and when they did, John swallowed hard.
"Oh God," he said at the sight of all the debris hanging in the water. He had to steer the boat around the pieces, not wanting to knock the boat. "Daniel...can you run a scan for life signs?"
