Fred closed all her laptops and unplugged them for the night. After saying goodbye to Radek, she left the lab and started toward the daycare center. She knew John was still busy with what he needed to finish so she'd told him she would pick Alex and Chase up that evening. When she got to the daycare, both of her children hurried over to her and laughed.
"Hey you two," she said as she picked up their bags and Chase. "Lets go home and start dinner."
"Yay! I'm hungry," Alex said as she hopped a few times and then fell in-line next to her mom. "What're we having?"
"Well, I was thinking we could make something your daddy likes," Fred said as she glanced down at her daughter. "What do you think we should make?"
"Daddy like football!" Chase said.
Fred laughed. "He can't eat a football, little man," she told him.
"Uncle Evan calls his football a pigskin and daddy said bacon comes from pigs," Alex pointed out as they arrived at their quarters.
"That's just an expression, sweetie," Fred explained as she opened the door. She sat Chase on the couch and quickly took his socks and shoes off, knowing how much her little boy hated having them on. She then shrugged off her jacket and hung it on the back of the chair. "How about spaghetti and cheese bread?"
"Yay!" Alex said with a nod.
"All right. And while I'm making it, Chase and you can draw pictures for your daddy, okay?" she said, smiling when both of her children nodded.
After grabbing some paper and their bucket of crayons, Fred took the kids to the kitchen and had them sit at the kitchen table. Alex announced she was going to draw the beach, while Chase decided to draw football. As the kids started on their pictures, Fred got everything out for dinner. She started to brown the ground beef as the water warmed up to boil. She then took out a cookie sheet and put some slices of frozen cheese bread on it.
Once the meal was going, she cleaned out Molly's water and food bowls and filled them up, knowing the dog would be hungry after spending the day with John. When she was finished with that, she poured herself a glass of strawberry milk and leaned against the counter. "How are the pictures coming?" she asked.
"Good!" Chase said. "Didn't draw on the table either."
Fred chuckled and shook her head. "Good to hear, buddy."
