Jimmy was coming over for dinner, so Leah had decided to cook something special, and Jimmy being Jimmy insists that if she's going to to the labor he's going to pay for the food. Jamie was always thrilled at the opportunity to spend time with his uncle Jimmy and this of course was no different, the two of them playing together as she picked out the food, with occasional input from the boys. It made her happy, Jamie having Jimmy in his life, because he needed a good male role model and she is aware it's her fault that his father isn't in his life, because Ryder doesn't even know he exists. She doesn't dwell on the thought though, because she's been spending enough time lately thinking about Ryder, about what her life isn't, about her choice, and about the only guy she's ever really
loved but never really had. Leah, despite this, had a good life, and she always tried to focus on that, usually successfully.
At Jamie's insistence, she'd picked up a mix for gingerbread cookies, and the idea had him very excited. As they walked out of the store with the few grocery bags they'd acquired, Jamie ran off call "You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!" and Leah ran after him, calling out for him to stop. He knew better than to run off like that, but he was only 5 and the excitement had gotten the better of him. "Jamison Ryder White!! STOP THIS INSTANT!" Her heart stopped, breath held in, as her son, the light of her life, ran into the street without looking around, and for a moment her entire world started to shatter.
