Welcome to Eureka
The alarm went off earlier than normal that morning. Jack groaned in protest as he reached over to hit the snooze button. His eyes started to drift close again, and he snuggled under his blanket. He was about to drift back to sleep when a voice rang through his room.
"Sheriff Carter? Don't forget you need to be up early this morning."
Opening his eyes, Jack stared up at the ceiling. "Thanks for the reminder, S.A.R.A.H.," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. They were times when he really hated living in a house that acted like it was...alive. But Jack knew if he didn't get out of bed, S.A.R.A.H. would continue to bother him.
After getting up, he showered and put his sheriff uniform on. He saw Zoe off to school before grabbing his keys, and going out to the sheriff department SUV he drove. Soon he was on his way into town. Jack knew it was an important day but decided he couldn't really start it until he had his morning coffee from Cafe Diem. He parked the SUV in front and went inside to find Fargo and Vincent looking at a notebook, and whispering.
Jack loudly cleared his throat and smirked when Fargo practically jumped out of his chair. "Are you two still trying to figure out who's coming to town today?" he asked as Vincent reached for the coffee pot, and started to fill one of the paper coffee cups.
"No," Fargo said as he pushed his glasses up his nose. "We were just...talking." Jack raised his eyebrows and Fargo sighed. "All right. We were trying to figure it out. If you could just give us a hint..."
Shaking his head, Jack took the coffee from Vincent. "I don't know who they are and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you," he said as he started for the door.
After leaving, Jack went to the sheriff's office and nodded at Jo as he walked in, and went to his desk. The town's new residents would be there in less than an hour. Truth be told, Jack wished he knew who was coming but all he was told they were getting a new liaison, along with a few scientists. And, on top of not being told, two of the houses the new scientists were supposed to live in weren't ready. Somehow, Max Pace and him had been volunteered to take them in. All Jack needed was to be stuck in his house with a complete stranger that was probably there to make some sort of goo that would end up taking over the town.
With an impatient sigh, he glanced down at his watch and started to tap his pen against his desk. When Jo glared at him, he gave her a sheepish look and stopped. Just then, Max walked in and grinned.
"Hey guys," she said as she plopped down in a chair. "Sorry I'm late. Had to make sure my house was neat for my guest."
"Glad to see someone's excited about all of this," Jack said. "I'm feeling a little used at the moment."
Both Jo and Max snorted, and Jack rolled his eyes. He looked over at the window and noticed three black SUVs pulling up. "I think our new scientists just arrived," he said as he stood from his desk.
