It probably said something about Sherlock that one of the most difficult tasks he had ever undertaken was picking out of gift for John and Mary's baby. He had been perfectly calm when Mary had gone into labor - a perfect contrast to John's panic, which was interesting given that John was the doctor here and a woman giving birth shouldn't have left him so at wit's end, but no matter. Picking out a gift, however, that was a daunting task. Sherlock knew he was rubbish at most things that required sentiment and thoughtfulness. He was a right thoughtless bastard most of the time. John Watson was his best friend, though. One of his only friends, in point of fact, which only made the task more important to him. As much as he didn't like admitting it, he needed assistance with this. Nothing if not a drama king, he swept into the lab at Saint Bart's more of less oblivious to the fact that Molly Hooper might have better things to do. "I need your help," he announced without even a hello, his expression as grave as if the puzzle involved a dead body or someone's life on the line. Fortunately, Molly was used to his dramatics and she was more than willing to assist him in this matter. Which he suspected had to do partly with the fact that their endeavor involved looking at things for babies. That was easy enough to deduce from the faces she made at the various outfits and toys designed for the miniature humans. One moment they'd been looking at onesies and then next his surroundings shifted. Sherlock noticed immediately that he was no longer in the store, of course. He found himself standing, instead, next to a park bench in what appeared to be a quaint little town. The very air was different from that of London. Cleaner, crisper. That he had been suddenly transported to a new locale was obvious, but the question remained... how? And where? |
