Jarvis thought overall the evening went well. He was worried, of course, for a variety of reasons. Worried about his Starks, and also for Ms. Carter's sake, since it was her dinner and her home they were taking over. He went out of his way to assist in whatever way possible, cooking and organizing and making his special napkin swans. It was an art, being a good caretaker, and he prided himself on it. He was glad to feel of use, considering this new world and new time was wearing on him. Also being without Anna; he hadn't spent more than a few days without her since they were married. It was difficult. So he focused. On the dinner, on helping Ms. Carter, on making a bridge for the Starks even if it killed him. Or made him go prematurely grey, that he was expecting. After being certain to help her clean up and do whatever needed to be done, Jarvis finally made his way back to the apartment buildings, but he was not ready to retire quite yet. Which was unusual, since he promptly went to bed at a reasonable hour typically. But that was when his wife was with him. So he found himself wandering around the town at odd hours these days, or reading through the internet and being baffled at all of the things he read. There was a point where reading became too invasive, and he thought it best to actually live. Which meant going to the source of curiosity, not merely observing from a distance. That is how he found himself at Tony Stark's door with a carefully prepared box of baked goods perhaps too late for most company. He had a suspicion the man kept after nine pm hours like his father. He was in his perfectly pressed clothing, although without the suit jacket at least, just a vest, a tie, and a crisp white shirt. For Jarvis, that was dressed down. He knocked firmly on Tony's door and waited. |
