It was a pretty standard day at Granny's, which wasn't really saying much because standard days in Storybrooke were pretty weird. It was actually supposed to be her day off, but Alexandra had a cold and the last thing Ruby wanted was to keep Ashley from her daughter. Needless to say, she had agreed to cover the shift. So now she was waiting tables and observing the people. An influx of people meant that Granny's was a lot busier than it used to be and that came with its good and bad points. The good was that they were making money and didn't have to worry about bills. The bad was that, well, some people were just assholes. And that didn't limit itself to the otherworld arrivals. Some people from the town apparently thought they could get away with all manner of assholery as long as they focused on visitors.
Take the guy currently harassing a girl who was pretty clearly both new and, judging by her clothes and hair, a little out of her time period. She recognized him as one of the guys who used to hang around the Rabbit Hole when Keith had been a staple there. Now it seemed like he'd turned his new hobby into creeping on confused newcomers. Not liking the way he was clearly making the young woman uncomfortable, Ruby made her way over, not bothering to set down the pot of coffee she was carrying. "Is this jerk bothering you?" she asked, inserting herself between them and looked down at the newbie. Before the girl could say anything, jerkface (she was pretty sure his name was Rob, but she preferred jerkface), grabbed her arm and turned her to face him.
"We were just having a friendly chat, Red," he scoffed. "Nothing you need to mess with. Now run along like a good girl."
Oh, this guy was so getting his ass kicked. "You have three seconds to get your hand off me, asshole," she said, keeping her expression pleasant, even as her eyes flashed slightly gold. The past year or so had been good for helping her regain control over her wolf.
"What's your problem," he said, hand still on her arm. "Or...wait...is it your time of the month? One of 'em anyway?"
Okay, that was it. "I did warn you," she said, before looking over to where Dr. Whale was drinking his lunch. "Victor," she called. "You've got a new patient. He's got some really awkward burns." Then she took the pot of coffee she was holding and dumped it right down the front of jerkface's pants. While he shrieked in pain, she returned her attention to the new girl. "Sorry about that," she said cheerfully. "I'm Ruby. Welcome to Granny's. I'd offer you some coffee, but...wouldn't you know it...I have to make a new pot."
