First post to new asylum :)
Er. Yes. Introductory post. I saw the asylum on asylum-promo, and as a webcomicker, I just couldn't resist.

I'm relatively new to webcomicking - I've got a webcomic over on drunkduck.com (Morphic, a cross between urban fantasy and a half-hearted mystery, with some antropomorphic-ish characters, etc.), but that is the first comic I've ever drawn/written that's gotten past the first five pages.

I hope I'll gain something from this asylum, and that I can contribute something as well.

Nice. You have a great style, and interesting characters. Your panelling is the main thing that I think you need to work on. Sometime's it's hard to tell which image to go to next. :) Don't be afraid to put more space between panels than a single line, or vary line widths to make it clearer.

Thank you. Since Morphic is my first comic, it's more or less a learning-experience, and I try to learn something new with each page.

The last few pages of chapter three liberally abuses textures, which I'm still only learning to use. Hopefully, it's not too horrible to look at.

As far as panelling goes - I'm working on it. I'm actually a fair bit ahead of what I've been posting (though the distance is shrinking, since my new tablet refuses to work properly). In chapter four, I'll be separating the panels with wider, black-bordered white lines.

Nice. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

But yes, actually DOING comics is probably the best way to learn. I'm on my third comic, and even that is far from perfect...I'm still learning as well. Even Scott McCloud's theories only work if you practice at them.

Precisely. Art - any kind of art - only gets better if you pracise.

There are some tips in the McCloud-book that I own that made me thump my forehead on my desk and go "why didn't I think of that on my own?", so sometimes, his theories help with discovering new ways of doing things - but the difference between knowing the theory and doing it in practise is huge.
