Bad time for a reunion [George]
Simon stared at the samples.  He'd been able to duplicate it, making a slight change here and there due more to the lack of supplies and time.  He just had to hope he wasn't cutting too many corners.  The good doctor needed to test everything before he could simply run around giving injections.  He also needed to find a faster way than syringes.  Pneumatic syringe seemed the best solution, but he'd have to make sure the cure was actually the cure.

Sure, he could have found Jennifer and tested it, but he couldn't take the risk that something worse might happen.  He didnt' want to find out that once the..zombification had been cured, she was dead.  They were dead after all.  The tissue samples he'd taken from her said as much, and it certainly didn't look much better when he tried testing the cure on those same samples.   So he opted for finding one of the slow types that didn't look as if they were missing body parts.  He just had to hope that his coming out of the office wasn't going to get him bitten.  Sure, he'd have a test subject, but would it be worth it?

He ran full tilt at the zombie, knocking it down, and tried to make the injection.  Damn zombie wasn't really in the mood to be cured; it just wanted that delicious meat, which meant the doctor was now fighting to get the needle into the dead skin, all without getting bitten.

George looked over at the doctor. She stared at him hard as if she wasn't quite sure she was supposed to believe him. Yes, she'd come to the hospital hoping that she might find something. Though she fantasized about find a cure, she didn't think one would exist. This was almost too perfect.

She sat up and stood on her knees, peering at the injected zombie.

"Okay, so. We can try again. What's it supposed to do? ...Who's her?"

George was only mostly over her previous crush. Allowing herself a little jealousy distracted her from thinking that this cure was just another dead end.

Simon hit the dead thing's chest a few more times, but the last time was more a reaction to the pain his chest and stomach than to his own anger. This should have worked. Two brilliant doctors created this gorram cure, it should have worked.

"It doesn't matter." His breathing was labored, and his senses were off. He hadn't noticed the change in skin coloration, or the warming of the body. He couldn't focus on more than the anger and the growing despair. Anger,or maybe it was another seizure, gave him the power to hit the chest one more time; either way, the doctor went down, and the "dead thing" gasped for air.

Yeah, some people went fast, some went slow. Simon appeared to be going pretty damn fast.

George climbed over the unmoving zombie on the floor to climb on top of the doctor. She grabbed him by the sleeves of his white coat and started to shake him.

"HEY. Wake up. It matters. It fucking matters."

She started punctuating each word with a shake.

"None! of! them! are! dead! And unless we! figure! it! out! you're! going! to! be! stuck! in! there! for! ever!"

Simon didn't react to the shaking, not more than an attempt to push her away. He just wanted to lie there, do nothing, to die. Why couldn't she just let him die? Who the hell was she to demand he live? What did he have to live for anyway?

The "zombie" groaned. It wasn't the groan of a dead thing looking for brains, but the groan of a man who felt as if he'd been beaten almost to death. He rolled to his side, groaning again.

Simon didn't care about the groan, and he did the one thing he never wanted to do in front of a possible patient, or some really pushy bitch who should let him go in peace. He threw up, then collapsed in what little that had come up - it would be only moments before what was once Simon would start looking for brains and meat.

The once dead man rolled over to look at the chick and the lab coated freak. "Where am I?" The voice was rough, harsh, but there it was.

"Simon! Your cure works! Tell me there's more!"

George looked down at Simon and then to the cured zombie. This was going to go bad soon unless George found a way to take control. Her hand went over the doctor's heart, searching for a good grip before she pulled his soul halfway from his zombified body so that he looked as if he was sitting on himself.

"Look! It fucking worked!"

To the poor soul who was now well, George looked like she was talking to herself in the air. Now she was going to need to keep him safe. Somehow.

Simon wanted to just be left alone, but George wasn't letting him. George!

"George! What are you...what's going...what the holy fuckin' hell?" He'd heard that phrase somewhere before, and it seemed to fit now. He looked at the woman who had been Milly, Molly, whatever, and now she was George. It was George. Yes, for the moment, he was missing the point.

"Am I dead?" Apparently dead, or semi-dead, Simon was a little slow.

"No! None of the zombies are dead. They are stuck. I can't reap them, I can't kill them. Your cure works. Simon. Where the fuck is it?"

George pulled Simon completely from his body. Since it wasn't his time, he wouldn't be wandering anywhere. George glared at the first cured zombie.

"Hey! You! Help me get this guy out of the hall."

"Where am I? ..Is he dead?"

"No. He's going to save The City. We just need to fix him first. Okay? Fuck. Get over here."

George shamed the non-zombie into helping her drag Simon's limp undead body. She had no idea where she was going, just that she wanted to get the recently cured and the cure somewhere safe.

Simon winced. He only thought he'd gone mad many times before; now there was no way he'd be returning from this trip to crazytown. He stared down at his lifeless body, wincing again. He had vomit on his lab coat and cheek, but the unzombie was alive.

"He's alive! He..maybe there's a time delay. No. Wait. He's really alive." The ghostly form of the good doctor paced before stopping. There had to be some reason, some explanation for the delay. He couldn't remember everything.

"My office. No, Hannibal Lecter's office. George, did you see him come back? He's whole, for the most part." Simon moved to look the man over as they started dragging the now drooling undead body. Simon was doing his best to ignore the idea that that was his body; he had to pretend that it was someone else's body. Of course, when he tried to touch the now living man, his hand went right through. Not pleasant.

"Hey, you, do you remember anything?" Simon didn't know only George could hear him.

George relayed the message, "Hey, do you remember anything about how you got here? When you woke up?"

She looked behind her while they dragged his body. She didn't seem phased by its condition or the vomit. Hazards of the job.

"No." That was all the man could say. "I mean, my chest hurts. I can feel my heart beating." Simon would have given the man a look; he did give the man a look, but it didn't matter. Who couldn't feel his/her heart beating?

"Okay. George, how'd you get here? And why do you look like that?" Being dead, or sort of dead, seemed to have cleared the doctor's brain. "Why didnt' you tell me you were you?"

Simon's mind wasn't all that put together for the moment; he was still dealing with being partially dead. His body was certainly undead, but his soul was still around. It wasn't everyday that he had an out of body experience, although he had a feeling he should be glad he wasn't in his body now. He really didnt' want to eat people.

"There!" He pointed, and his hand went through the non-zombie's body. "Eck." It wasn't so much that he felt the body, but he didn't feel much of anything. "Get inside."

George, with the help of the unzombie, pulled Dr. Tam into the room he directed them into. She shut the door afterward, twisting the lock on the deadbolt. It seemed to be right on time, she could hear a moan ring out from the corridor.

"Because I liked you. But, you were you and I was me--"

"...Are you talking to me?"

George blinked at the un-zombie. She spoke slowly, "No." Pivoting on a heel she turned toward the spirit of Dr. Tam and muttered under her breath, "Can we have this conversation another time? Like, after you tell me where the cure is?"

"Your heart." Simon motioned to the syringes. "Heart." He'd read something. Maybe he hadn't. He moved quickly to Lecter's notebook and opened it, or tried to. "Dammit. I need to look in this. How am I supposed to save anyone if I can't touch things?"

He looked back at George. "Open this."

Perhaps the monkey saw Simon because he started jumping up and down in his cage. Or maybe the undead body got the primate excited. Or maybe it was the new girl, or the new male. It really didn't matter. The monkey wanted attention.

"Give him banana." Simon might have been demanding, but he really didn't have time for being polite. Plus, she'd lied to him.

"Something about the heart. I need a pressure gun. Pneumatic syringe. If I can perfect this cure, I can put in the gun, or guns. We need to start inoculations."

George sighed. She saw where the bananas were kept and handed one to the caged primate. She inspected him closely before turning to obey Simon's command.

"Well, we sort of need to cure you first so you can touch shit again. What page do you do you even want it on?"

"Um, excuse me. Who are you talking to?"

"The invisible man."

"Oh." The un-zombie paused, "He lives in The City?"

"Yes. Now stay put."

"What invisible man?" Simon looked up and finally realized that he really needed to pay more attention. "Just flip through the pages. I'll find what I'm looking for."

"Wish we knew if this stuff would keep people permanently cured. The syringes take too long." He would have leaned against the counter, but that didn't seem like the best idea when he couldn't even touch things. His hands went into his incorporeal lab coat pockets. "I think they have a gun..."

Simon was trying to think about two things at once, and while he might be slow in certain cases, he could handle multi-thinking in some occasions. One was just taxing his memory; the other was looking for the information - how hard could that be?

"So, why haven't you been bitten?"

George muttered as quietly as she could in an annoyed sing-song voice, "Already dead they're only interested in the living, remember?"

George flipped through the pages for him.

"Right." Simon nodded slightly; that was a logical answer. His attention focused on the pages, the words meaningless for the moment. "Wait. Stop."

What was he missing?

"No, that's not it. Keep going. It should be a few more pages." The doctor glanced over at the first cured patient, then at his own drooling greying body. "I'm drooling."
