Pietro knew what zombies were, but he had no idea why they were dancing. (Attn: Simon)
Somewhere, not too far away, someone was singing. Pietro could not make out the words, and the tune was foreign to him, but the song had a good beat and was surprisingly cheerful given the ongoing zombie apocalypse. Zombies. At least, where he was from, the dead stayed dead.

Usually.

He was back in the black suit that Fred had suggested he abandon some time prior, but he had a long coat on over it and it helped to mask the ridiculousness of the outfit. Hey. His X-Men costume was aerodynamic, albeit slightly unfashionable in most places. With the walking dead wandering the City, he wanted to be prepared.

He was on high alert, and therefore a little more twitchy than usual. He had a bat in hand, and he kept hefting it experimentally. He moved in bursts, running a block or two and then slowing to look for people who seemed to be walking instead of shambling along like something from one of those corny movies that he'd seen on the television since he'd come to the City.

"My reaction times are much, much faster than an ordinary human's," Pietro retorted, perhaps a shade more defensively than was strictly necessary. The clipped tone was accompanied with a frown; he wasn't particularly used to having his abilities questioned, but then, this wasn't his homeworld and Simon wasn't a member of his team. It wasn't the guy's fault that he didn't know.

"I'm from a war zone. It was just part of the training." This time, the tone was a little more gentle. Pietro was trying. "I--"

He was a good scout, too. His speed enabled him to travel large distances quickly, and he'd developed a good eye (and ear) for trouble. Experience had taught him that very loud sounds rarely meant anything good, and the scream coming from down the street? It was not good.

Pietro turned, got a glimpse of the mass of zombies coming around the corner, and immediately hauled himself from the vehicle. The keys stayed in the ignition and the engine was left running, but the driver's door hung ajar. "I guess they got into the bus."

The zombies had run down a middle aged woman, and had crowded around to fight over the meat. "Go." Pietro said, gesturing wildly at the car. "I'll distract them. Go, get to the hospital."

There were just too many. Too many to evade, once they got the scent. They'd chase the car, and even if they couldn't overtake it (hey, other people in the City had powers too; it wasn't out of the question), they might track the scent to the hospital.

It couldn't be allowed. Simon had been so adamant about getting there - the word 'cure' was a magic one, and if a cure was a possibility and not just the ravings of some crazy person? The only option was buying the stranger some time. "If you see Fred? Tell her to hide the next time she sees me - just in case. She should not try to outrun me; I can break the sound barrier on foot."

Simon held on to whatever he could as the car sped along. He didn't know what this guy was doing, but at least, he was pretty certain they were making their way to the Hospital. If he could find a cure, he could help everyone.

Only, the speedster didn't get them to the Hospital. The guy decided to be a hero instead. Well, a more immediate hero - Simon was out for the big picture hero. There was a hint of a nod, first at the "get to the hospital" then at the "Fred" business. Who the hell was Fred, and why was he using the pronoun "she"? Fred was not a girl's name.

"Right. I'll do that." Simon climbed over into the driver's seat and began mimicking what he'd seen the speedster do. He winced as he heard things crunch and whine, but he thought he'd make better head way in the vehicle than out of it.

Unfortunately, he didn't get far before he turned left when he should have turned right. Luckily, he wasn't going fast enough to hurt much, but he was going fast enough to cause damage to the car and possibly a fire hydrant. He didn't wait to see if anyone would notice. No, he ran. He ran like his life and everyone else's depended on it.
