Eric had an easier time with the wall than she had. It wasn't often that someone could out-skill her in a feat of dexterity, but Eric was one of the ones who could. She gave him a good eyeing when he reached the top.
And when he called her by the name she'd only ever given him, she smiled.
"Hello," she said, her speech having improved considerably - thanks to the library here in the City. She had always absorbed knowledge at an accelerated pace, but never so well as in writing. It was one of her strengths.
"I have missed you."
This was not the Eric she'd had at her apartment. He looked different - his expression was even different. This was the one who had been with them on the island. This was the one she'd been trying to give a wide berth, not because she wanted to but because it had seemed respectful.
But she missed her best friend, and surely she shouldn't have to be without him forever.
"Are you settled in?" she asked, hoping that she'd been respectful enough. Hoping that they could be friends again.
