The horror continued as she was mocked and towered over. Annie's mouth felt dry. Before she'd had her first encounter with him, she'd never been this afraid of anything. Not even considering all the really horrible stuff she'd been through prior to being brought to The City. She'd mistrusted SHIELD, and still had a bit of a reflexive twitch when the name was mentioned, but not fear. She'd worried about her powers being exploited again, but that wasn't fear, either.
This was a pure, immobilizing, horrifying feeling. It made her believe she was weak and pathetic, which just made everything so much worse.
Annie was caught in her terror when something even more strange started happening. A loud noise, yelling, then something touching her. It only took a moment for the suit to convey intentions to her, that it was there to protect. To save. That Tony had brought it. That it and Jarvis were looking out for her as Tony's backup.
And Tony.
When she got her wits about her finally, when she felt safer than she had ever felt in her life, Annie was able to assess the things happening. Tony was in rage. She'd never seen him like this before. It didn't frighten her in any way, she understood it was for her. He was doing this, acting this way, on her behalf. She was so very grateful.
The suit did not give Annie any illusions of fighting ability. It could keep her safe no doubt, but it couldn't magically make her good at offensive maneuvers. So she held back. Watching. Silently hoping Tony would break the guy completely.
