A look of deep apology etched itself into Jo's features. She hadn't known that Wash had asked Zoe to leave him alone. Of all the things that he'd told her, that hadn't been one of them.
"I didn't realize that he asked you to stay away. I'm sorry."
This really had been a terrible idea. She wasn't sure what she'd hoped to accomplish, aside from the almost childish hope that somehow this would give Wash and Zoe a chance to reconnect. Maybe not get back together, but at least find a way to be in each other's lives.
"If it's worth anything? I don't think that he really wants you to stay away. Not the way he's still clearly missing you." She sighed. "Look, I've never been married so I'm really not the one to give advice on this whole thing. But I do know what the City is like. It gives some people a second chance and sometimes it takes people away without warning and pretty much rips your heart out. It sucks and I think that all we can do is grab onto the time we have, you know?"
She looked towards the door.
"And I promise that this is the last time I'll try to interfere in your relationship or lack thereof with him. So yes, you can show me the door now."
She did still look like she felt guilty, but she'd come here what she needed to say and she'd found out the other side to the story when it came to the pair. She did know about Jesse and she was inclined to feel a good bit of sympathy because Zoe had lost him just as suddenly as Jo had lost Ted and there was no way around the pain of that but to keep going through it.
