"I know, Wash. I know," she repeated. "I've already talked to Sam and he knows that if they have a problem with Maxine, they're going to have to go through me first. The question is-do you want me to tell Dean and issue the same warning, or do we want to trust that Sam will keep his word?"
She sighed.
"For what it's worth, I don't think that Sam will tell him unless something happens and it has to come out. I also think that Sam's willing to help her find some control. I just think that we need to realize that there are people out there-not just Sam and Dean-but other people-who might try to react violently to a little girl who can turn them into an animal without their permission. And we just need to do what we can to help her and to protect her from anyone out there who might have a problem with it."
Whatever her training as a hunter, Jo never believed that the job was about going after kids. Even kids with powers that had the potential to be scary.
She leaned against the wall, trying not to think about how tired this could make her.
"You're right about one thing though. We're not her parents. You and I didn't exactly prequalify for this job. But we're all she's got, which means that we need to find some way to help her understand that her actions can affect other people."
