If Wash remembered Sam from his culinary adventures back when he was a newer City citizen, it didn't seem to matter now. He knew what Jo did. Supernatural stuff. Good guy stuff. He wouldn't know about 'good guy' stuff. But he respected the heart of it.
But a 5 year old? A threat? And her safety in question? His back suddenly got very straight.
"React? She's 5, Jo. You know what you do when a 5 year old makes a mistake? You say don't do it again and hope they listen. You don't 'react.' Because react, to me, sounds a lot like cause harm. And there's no gorramn way I'm going to let self-righteous hunters harm Maxine.
"So, no, we better be exactly sure how they will 'react,' Jo. Because we can punish her an' keep her in her room all we want. We can tell her no a thousand times. But I was 5 once, some might think I'm not far away from that now. You make lots of mistakes when you're five. You hit and bite and shove stylus pens so far up your nose that you have to get surgery. But the one thing you don't do is listen when your parents say 'no.' And we aren't her parents so can't say how that's gonna turn out, either. Can't control her emotions cause they aren't all there yet in the right way.
