Jo didn't look up right away. She knew that she was in a funk, but she didn't really know how to break out of it. It was really weird having Wash and Maxine here full-time, too. Nice, in a way, but it was kind of an adjustment to suddenly have people in the house all the time. It felt a little bit like she was encroaching on Maxine's time with the man who had become a surrogate father to her, and that just reminded Jo of the fact that she was back to not knowing where she fit in the City again. It shouldn't have mattered, but it wasn't like she could pick up and keep moving to keep her mind off the people she'd lost. Even those that she cared about who were still in the City had their own lives and Jo wasn't really sure where she fit with any of them.
That said, the house was a lot more full now with the redheaded pilot and the small blonde girl. Jo appreciated them so much for that. So even though her first instinct was to just answer 'no' to Wash's question, she looked up and over at him.
"Well, something sure the hell ain't right, but not really." She shrugged. "Talking's not going to bring anyone back, is it? What about you? Anything you'd like to talk about?" Her tone softened a little on the last question. She might not like talking about her feelings all that much, but Jo could be a good listener when given the chance.
She knew enough to know that Jesse was Wash's ex-wife's boyfriend, which she was sure was complicating things for him. At least, she could assume that having something happen to Jesse might just be a reminder of how Wash felt about Zoe. She couldn't say what she'd do in his situation, but there was a part of her that just wanted to encourage him to go comfort the love of his life.
