"Thanks for having me on such short notice," Jo said, holding out the bottle to accept Charlie's help. She might have been able to handle a corkscrew just fine, but this was his place and maybe he needed to be able to play the host for a little bit.
"I don't think it's murder," she said, going back to his question. "I wouldn't do it if it was. They're dead already and they're trapped. It's not the natural way of things to stay behind when you're supposed to move on. Usually it's a fixation of some sort that keeps them here. After awhile, the world changes around them but they never get the chance to keep up. They just retreat more and more into the anger over whatever they had that wouldn't let them leave."
She didn't enjoy killing things so much as she enjoyed making sure that people had the chance to live. In the case of ghosts, making sure that they didn't remain stuck-that was important too.
"And if I didn't do what I do, then the ghosts would just keep on killing people as an outlet for their anger."
She wondered if this was a question that Charlie had been holding in for awhile. Maybe he hadn't wanted to ask it while Ted had been around. Or maybe it was just something that he'd thought of now. She didn't know, but she thought that it was important to clear the air as much as she could. She'd always been a little leery of law enforcement because they just didn't understand usually. And if you didn't know what was going on, things like breaking into houses, digging up graves, impersonating FBI agents... all of those things were technically illegal.
