Jo was perhaps even more concerned about the lack of emotion in Charlie's voice. He was maybe numb to it all, she thought. She tried to smile and failed but hopefully managed a look of shared empathy. She hadn't known Ted for nearly as long as Charlie had so while she knew some of what he was feeling, she was pretty sure that she could barely scratch the surface, particularly since he'd lost his girlfriend as well.
"Probably not," she said. "And I probably can't help you anymore than you can help me. But I've got this pizza and I'd really like to not eat it alone."
Her voice cracked a little on that last word. She also really didn't want to spend time with someone who didn't feel the loss that she'd just experienced. As independent as she used to be, she'd put down roots in the City and Ted was a big part of that. He'd offered quite a few things that she hadn't even realized that she wanted. Things that now she didn't want from anyone but him.
