"And that is why I will forever pity you, Erik," she snapped, a bit of the old Enigma surfacing, even as Effie tempered her. "Because you choose to live your life closeted away. I betrayed you and I hurt you, yes, and I will forever live with that burden. But your burdens are of your own making, because you can't give yourself a chance to be loved by more than Christine and your two friends."
She turned her back on him, stooping to pick up her crayon again. "You once saw yourself in me," she stated as she knelt to return to drawing, starting on a small cityscape, memories of a home she wasn't sure she ever wanted to return to...Gotham's building's rising on the wall. "But I see so little of myself in you. I see a broken, scared man who tries and tries but in the end he runs from anything that can help him, hiding away behind his traps and his masks."
She added a window to Wayne Tower before finally looking up at Erik, her face shadowed. "How can that bring you happiness?" she asked, confused, honestly and truly confused with the idea. "How can being alone be a good thing?"
"And if I was never your friend...what was I" was left unsaid, instead, Effie turned back to her drawing, sketching a tiny figure with a cap on the roof of Wayne tower, before suddenly changing tactics, her mini-Gotham blending into the City itself, an Opera house cramming itself in next to Wayne Tower with a little figure of a man on the front steps, holding a breaking mask...her vision of Erik.
