Jo had a point that he'd been out of touch. Sam felt a rush of guilt that she'd adopted a freaking kid-or close enough to that-and he'd missed it. As it was, he was barely keeping up with Dean's life these days. Though he'd be pissed if Dean did something big like adopting a kid or getting engaged without telling him. Not the point here though.
Concern etched itself into his features as Jo finished her plea. He really didn't want to have to make any life and death decisions about a kid, but he also thought that Maxine's powers could be really dangerous if Jo didn't get her under control. And could Jo do that? If it was Ellen, he would have no doubt. But he'd never thought of Jo as a mothering type. Not really.
Then again, if she'd learned anything from Ellen, she would be just fine.
Sam exhaled slowly. He didn't love the idea of keeping something from Dean, but it wouldn't be the first time that he'd kept something from his brother. It always blew up in his face and he had a feeling that this thing might eventually. And yet, he didn't want to force his brother to make a decision about such a young kid either. He really didn't.
"I won't tell Dean for now. But you know that he's probably going to find out eventually. You should think about telling him before that happens."
It wasn't a threat, but this City was small enough that something like this wouldn't be a secret for long. Especially if Maxine kept changing random people into pets just because she wanted one.
"I can help, if you want. I have some experience with learning to control powers that are stronger than anyone should have."
There was a touch of sadness and regret. He didn't much like thinking about that period in his life or about the ache for demon's blood and the hole that letting go of those abilities had left in his life. And yet, as much as he hated Ruby, she'd given him a lot of good techniques for controlling the whole thing. Sam thought that those techniques might translate to different power sets. Control was control, right?
