Sam had been extremely confused when Maxine brought him back to Jo. He hadn't been keeping up with the other hunter as much. He didn't keep up with most people these days, he supposed. So to see that she had sort of adopted a kid was... really weird. Then again, he supposed that it made sense that she would. Dean had all but gotten married here and Jo had a kid. It seemed that this place was good for the two people he knew from back home. It gave them the chance to stop running and just settle down and find things that made them happy. At least, he hoped that they were both happy.
Having Jo there had reminded him of exactly why he wanted to go back to being human. Being a dog had been easier in a lot of ways, but Jo was a piece of his life and reminded him of his brother. Dean would never stop looking for him if he just disappeared into a canine life. He might never have found him if it weren't for Jo.
Sam bit back a comment of 'holy shit' once he finally regained his human form. Thankfully, he was still clothed. That was a plus, he supposed. It had been really touch and go for few minutes there while Maxine had been changing him.
He sent Jo a silent thank you and then looked at the kid who had really scary powers now that he thought about it.
"Hi. Thanks for changing me back."
There was a softness in his voice, even if her powers were more than a little freaky and could be dangerous if left unchecked. He knew exactly how it felt to have powers that you couldn't understand or explain or fully control. Only his had come in much later, even if he'd been tainted with demon's blood from much younger than Maxine was now. He'd never had a chance at normalcy and he had a feeling that she might not either, as much as she wanted things that would make a normal life. Like a dog.
