What she'd really like was some way to find Simon and celebrate with him, to hug her brother. She'd really like that. This ordeal had been that much more because he hadn't been there. She'd seen Wash during it, and Zoe, briefly, but...
...you're on my crew. Why we still talkin' about this?
... she missed her family.
River considered the party idea and smiled slightly, not a hundred percent certain that was the thing, but she did agree that she wanted to share her relief and happiness with people.
Her eyebrows drew together into a fine, dark line. "I'm not sure," she said. "But dancing, yes." She hesitated before calling any of the Firefly crew her family. Were they really, anymore? Things were so different now. Hannibal was her family. He was one of the only constants. She took his hand without even realizing she was doing it. "I miss my family. And I think I just realized that that's different people than it used to be."
All she wanted was time not to feel caged. To gain momentum. For a moment she just wanted to run down a hill at full speed with her hair flying out behind her and several friends alongside her.
She smiled a little crookedly at Lindsey. "What would you do?"
Now that she could no longer read people, aside from very good perceptive abilities, River realized she wondered a bit about the man standing there.
"And what would you do?" she asked Hannibal. She had a better idea of that.
