River let Hannibal grab her up to a standing position and threw her arms around him, a huge smile on her face. She laughed, just once, her face buried in his neck.
This had really been an ordeal. It had spanned a considerable amount of her time in the City.
She smiled at Lindsey when he smiled at her, and released her hold on Hannibal.
River heard what he said, but she knew that, objectively, she'd done nothing wrong. She knew he had a point, but she did not see how to watch her step. She nodded just the same.
"What if it had been without prejudice?" she asked. "Can they change it? Or is that really the end of it?"
River was still a genius, but she didn't know a lot about law. Not without a few hours in Lindsey's office and some time to absorb.
