That was smart. Lestat could see now why it might be good to have one of those rolling boards.
He could smell the dogs now. And the drool. Dogs had a particular smell that stayed with them, and their owners. Had the girl not been with her dogs, if Lestat had gotten this close to her, he'd have known she had them anyway.
Or, if they weren't hers, that she spent a lot of time with them.
When she turned around, Lestat offered her a slight smile. His fangs were hidden, and it was simply an amiable thing. He made his expression that of the kind he'd seen so many times on humans--the pleasant, happy face they put on for animals.
