"Xanadu, neon lights shine for you" -- Lorne's Arrival and Meeting Xanadu [Complete]
Lorne wasn't really having the best of weeks. It started first when Angel told the green guy what he needed to be done, and culminated in that loud, gutwrenching sound.

Bang!

"Should have kept with singing, Lindsey." Lorne lamented quietly. The lawyer was as evil as non-alcoholic drinks, but he had a voice. It was something that Lorne couldn't deny. The deed was done though and Lorne lowered his hat over giveaway green skin. He hailed a cab and slipped in, slouching into the back seat.

"Keep going, Cabby. Let's go to the airport." Then he could get out of here. Far away out of here. Falling asleep because of exhaustion, he tossed and turned a bit. It was a fitful sleep. But he didn't wake up until the cab stopped. Bright eyes opened and peered out of the cab, taking in the sights of the airport. No. Not an airport. Not even LA. Least not any part he had seen.

"Hey, where are--" Oh poop. The cabby left him. "Well. I guess you didn't want a tip." Mmph!He got out of the car and looked around for a minute, then looked back at the mysteriously empty cab. Hands in his pockets, Lorne started walking down the street. What a day not to be wearing your ruby slippers.

That was a good question. Xanadu had lived over a thousand years. She'd heard hundreds of bards, musicians, soloists, virtuosos; many of them considered the greatest of their time. She dwelled in the question while munching quietly on a crispy piece of bacon. When she spoke she looked as though she was the last person left holding memories from some place far away.

"I like simple things, I suppose. A cappella soloists and street performers. I also like Peking Opera." Xanadu smiled. "It's an acquired taste. Are you a musician?"

Lorne wasn't nearly as old as the sorceress that he was having breakfast with, but did have an eclectic taste in music. And also devoured as many different types of music as eagerly and fast as Fred-let had devoured tacos.

"I love music. I'm a fan of everything." He gushed. "Except for the studio-produced music that's coming out now." Ew. "So long as it's from the heart, then I'm all over it like vodka over ice."

As for her question, he grinned a bit. "I fancy myself a bit of a singer, but nothing serious."

"You should sing for me some time. I would like that."

It occurred to her as she ate that the waitress did not even give them a street name, let alone directions to The Bates Motel. She kept the thought to herself as continued to eat her breakfast for dinner.

The grin drew more broad over his features, "I'd love to. But only if it's a give-and-take." A duet, perhaps. Duets were adorable.

He continued to eat as well, not worrying too much about the lack of street address for the motel. He assumed that it was close. Or easy to find. Surely, they would have given directions otherwise!

Once they were done, Lorne was pulling out his wallet and paying the bill. Hopefully his type of currency would suffice.

"You might regret that," she smiled. About the same time Lorne pulled out his wallet, Xanadu pulled out the wallet from her small silk bag. "I'd like to pay, if that's alright. How much is the bill for?"

She was at a distinct disadvantage here if they were going to argue over who would get to pay. But if she lost this round she would be certain to remember that for next time.

"Trust me. I'm pretty good at putting a singing voice with a person. I think you'd do well, Du-drop." He gestured toward her and smiled thoughtfully but then shook his head.

"I have this one. Next time, I'll be more than happy for a date, you thief of hearts you." He was joking with her, as his jovial tone denoted.

Xanadu laughed. With Lorne it was easy to forget that they might be in danger, that whoever had placed them here had targeted them. That the two may have shared knowledge of the occult in common, and there might have been other similarities to link them together. That it was perhaps a clue.

Maybe Lorne was right. There was nothing hellish or demonic about being here at all.

"It's a date," she agreed cheerfully.

Slowly she stood from the table with the cane in one hand. She was tired and hoped that the motel was close.

There were probably a few other similarities between them, but whether the Powers meant it to be so or are just amused was beyond his ken. And Barbie. Even beyond his Skipper! Either way, he was just going for the ride.

"Oh so lovely." He smiled, opening the door for her as they left. The waitress, whom they had passed by, was given another jaunty wink before they skedaddled onto the street.

"Now..If I was the Bates Motel, I'd be lavish and had one fabulous masseuse waiting for weary travelers. Just like us!"

Xanadu walked out onto the sidewalk through the opened door. She stood for a moment after Lorne, letting him go on ahead of her just a few steps until she had her things ready to catch up.

"I'm not sure we'll be so..."

The seer trailed off as if remembering something. Perhaps it was something about a swamp, but that was not quite right.

"So lucky? I've gotta look on some bright and sunny side up of something, Du-drop! And a masseuse sounds as bright--" He trailed off right there because he had turned to look at the woman. But she was gone!

"Xanadu?" He looked around and looked in a few nooks and crannies for her. Then looked up at the sky all flustered, "Very funny. Thanks."

Well, she knew that he was going to the Bates Motel, so hopefully they'd catch up there. Looking down at his shoes, he gave them a good talking to (consisting of something like the tune to Rawhide) and headed off down the street to look for the Bates Motel. Had to be close, right?

He'd find out soon enough that he was wrong. This City-place was going to be the death of him.
