Catching up (Lois)
It felt odd to say that he had his job back when Errol felt as if he'd never left. The layout of the store had changed enough so that it didn't feel as seamless as returning to his apartment, but books were books and it was easy enough to turn on the coffee pot, make sure that the sign in the door said "Open," and he began to browse himself for a book to settle behind the counter with.

Or he would have, if curiosity hadn't gotten the better of him and he picked up one of the City newspapers left out near the coffeepot instead. Since arriving in the City Errol did his best to avoid the news. After Libria, he preferred to live in an insulated bubble. But a long absence meant that the City had possibly changed around him. That bubble could have changed without him knowing. It was safer for him to know than to exist in happy ignorance right now.

He sat back behind the counter, a paper unfolded in front of him, and soon began making notes of back issues to find in the library. Apparently things had been very interesting since he had been here last.

"Well, I'll have to send you over the back issue containing the write-up on that interview," Lois said. "Not the same as asking your own questions, but there were definitely some interesting questions that were asked."

She held out her hand.

"And I'm Lois, by the way. Lois Lane."

He'd said that he didn't read many comics, so maybe he didn't know who she was. She could only hope. She was really tired of the looks she got when she introduced herself to people who had read those comics.

((Sorry! I had pet drama. It's all good now.))

"I'd appreciate that," he said. "Thank you."

He hesitated for a moment before shaking her hand briefly. "Errol Partridge." His forehead creased for a moment as he thought, and then his eyes widened in recognition. "Ah. Yes, that would be it." He tapped the paper. "You write for them. That explains a lot of things." He smiled briefly, not an insincere one but one that vanished quickly nonetheless, and said, "I suppose it's a good thing that I didn't have anything uncomplimentary to say about the articles before I knew that."

Lois laughed and arched an eyebrow.

"I'm always open to constructive criticism. But with the way my editor goes over everything with a fine tooth comb, I doubt you would have had much to criticize."

She grinned. Her editor was a hard-ass, but that was exactly the sort of person she knew how to work with.

"Nice to meet you, Errol," she said. It was genuinely nice to meet someone who knew her by her articles and not by some fairytale of a comic book that only vaguely resembled her life.
