New things to ease boredom (Lestat)
They had flown.

Karen hadn't quite known what to expect when Lestat had said he hoped she wasn't afraid of heights, she couldn't even begin to think of anything that he could come up with doing that would include them. Not that she was worried about it anyway. Heights didn't bother her any more than anything else did. Whether that was because of the drugs and booze in her system, or because she'd long ago sold her soul to the devil, or just because she was naturally fearless, Karen couldn't have said.

They ended up on one of the highest buildings in the city. On the roof, looking down at all the small people who looked even smaller from up here. Karen liked it. She liked that there was no way for them to see her up here. She only wished she could see them better. So she could make fun of their clothing.

"Oh honey." She sighed. "You do know how to show a girl a good time. But I had no idea that vampires could do that."

Of course, she didn't really know anything about vampires at all. Not really. Just what movies said, and she had a feeling that they didn't know anything about real vampires.

Lestat smiled.

Karen wasn't scared. This had scared humans before. Scared them (and this was a great expression for this particular sensation) right out of their skin. He loved that she wasn't scared. It reminded him of himself.

He was quite fond of Karen Walker, inexplicably. Maybe she was a throwback. A combination of every woman that'd been important to him. He could see Gabrielle in her. And Mona, definitely.

"We do more than drink," he said. "I have quite a few tricks up my sleeve. Just... none of that Bram Stoker nonsense."

"Bum Stroker? What?" Karen looked at Lestat, a little bit confused. "I don't know what you're talking about honey, and I can't decided if I don't want to, or if it sounds like a fantastic good time."

She took a small flask out of somewhere. Might have been the region under her ample chest, might have been from her shoe somehow. She took a drink from it and offered it to the vampire without thinking.

"Do you spend a lot of time up here? Or up anywhere?"

Lestat smirked. Figured, right?

He held a hand up at the offered flask, and looked out over the City. "Now and then. I suppose I really have to be in the mood for this. Mostly I watch people. Vampires are incredible voyeurs."

Specific people, with Lestat. Always. Prey, and then those that interested him. That included, still, Hannibal Lecter and River Tam. It included Buffy. It had certainly included Mona (oh, here we go again...) and Rachel Grey.

It included Karen.

"Mmm. Voyeurs." Karen nodded. "I like to watch people while they shower too."

Her voice was soft as she looked out over the city. A place that she hadn't really taken the time to get to know, mostly because it didn't particularly matter to her.

The lip of her flask tipped into her mouth again, this time a small lump of something sliding out.

"Ooh! I found the prize!" Karen lit up. "I wonder if it was an upper or a downer."

Lestat chuckled again. Upper or downer. So very cute and so very human.

Well. He could fix that. Couldn't he?

"Karen," he said, very quietly, part of him shocked as anything he was about to say this at all. "How would you feel about not dying? Ever."

It was true. It wasn't even just a clever lie, anymore. Lestat was certain that he couldn't die unless the world blew apart at the seams.

"Oh honey. I'm not dying. My head is going to be perfectly preserved and attached to a robot body with enormous knockers."

She looked out over the city for some time before it occurred to her what he was really offering.

The realization came very slowly, which made Karen sure that it had been a downer she'd hidden in her flask. Uppers didn't normally muddle her thought process this much. Though, she was getting fairly drunk at this point... it was anybody's game, really.

But Lestat was a vampire, and vampires had the ability to make other vampires, didn't they? That was one bit of lore that she was quite certain about.

She lowered the flask and turned to him. "You're offering what I think you're offering." Nowhere near a question. "And what would this entail? A bite? Some boob groping?" Karen thought about it. "I could live with that."

Live forever?

Be able to torment and make fun of other people for the rest of time? Accumulate so much money in her bank accounts that she could buy large countries without blinking?

Oh hell yes.

Karen grinned.

Lestat grinned back.

"Much as I think they're very nice, no boob groping is necessary."

He very seriously hoped Karen was drunk. Because that meant he would get to be drunk, and that had not happened in a very long time. There was a slow nod.

"A bite. And a drink."

To show her he was serious, Lestat arched an eyebrow and rolled his sleeve up slightly so that the blue veins in his wrist were visible, tapping a finger against them.

"It's not entirely pleasant or unpleasant. Actually, part of it would hurt like hell. But that fades."

The grin came back. He'd been here before and would be here again, he was sure. Immortality drove Lestat to very strange things.

"Oh." She shrugged. "A little blood doesn't bother me."

Living and Karen being Karen had driven her to very strange things. The 80s were a complete blur, god knew what she'd done during that time. She may or may not have been alive and an adult during the roaring 20s as well. Time would not tell, ever, if Karen and her plastic surgeon had anything to do with it.

And with this gift, well, she wouldn't even need the surgeon anymore.

The idea of pain didn't even unsettle her. She was pretty sure that she had enough stuff running through her system that she'd be completely numb to it even after whatever happened to her happened.

"Well. Get on with it then."

The lady said go.

Lestat was never one to refuse a woman who gave him free reign in this, or in sex, when he was alive. He was not capable of such a thing and actually would apply the mortal phrase that he "got off on it."

Faster than Karen would see it, he was less than an inch from her. Don't panic. You're going to want to panic. Don't do it. It's not worth the effort. An arm went around her waist and Lestat opened his mouth and bit down into her neck.

The circuit had begun.

Panic.

The word wasn't in Karen's vocabulary. Really, it wasn't. It had gotten lost somewhere along the way with 'rat traps' and 'rent controlled'.

She giggled a little bit when he bit her, but that was about the extent of her reaction. If she'd been able to speak, she probably would have made a quip about making out. But she couldn't. So she didn't.
