Quack (tag: Thomas)
Ever since the “incident” with that ridiculously tall leprechaun, Jeannie had been avoiding the park. Not consciously. She did not think about ways to avoid passing through it, or alternate routes around it. She had simply been doing it, and it was not until that very morning that she realized it. Which gave Mad Sweeney far too much influence over her life.
That would have to change. Because she was simply not of the disposition to let any two-bit, childish, oafish, redheaded freak of an Irish creature make her change her ways. What she was of the disposition to do was to punish him for what he had done to her. How dare he? And his actions made her avoid the park, a place she enjoyed! Stupid leprechaun.
Determined not to let unease keep her away any longer, Jeannie deliberately turned her steps toward the green sward that was dotted with trees and benches. Even though she did not truly need to go that way today. It was actually a bit out of her way. But it was much easier to navigate to her destination now that the streets remained in place.
The djinn wondered about that. About the sudden change in the City, and what caused it. The City had been her master when she had arrived, though she had never felt the same kind of connection as she did with other masters. There was not that rush of satisfaction that came with doing something for the City that she received when she did something for Sir Guy, or had done for Major Nelson. It had been an incomplete bond. But it still made her wonder what had happened to her former master. And, if she was honest, worry a bit.
Jeannie made her way through the park, concentrating on her surroundings today rather than her last visit to the place. She walked until she found an unoccupied bench near the pond and sat down. A quick blink and a nod provided her with a bag of bread cubes, and within minutes, she was surrounded by hungry ducks. A much better way to spend her time in the park, rather than being stuck inside a nasty beer bottle being shaken by a leprechaun. Much better.
