Busy and in confusion (Hank)
Backdated: Happens right after this

They'd called him down into the clinic today because the hospital was being overrun. People were coming in with all kinds of complaints and much panic. All of the staff was present unless they had a very pressing matter to attend to, and even then they were told to return as soon as they got finished.

Hannibal was currently standing in front of a woman, the bridge of his nose pinched in his fingers, eyes closed. Trying to not get angry.

"No, I assure you. You are not dying." He said. It sounded like it might have been easily the fiftieth time he'd said it. "The streets not moving has nothing to do with the numbness in your arm. Which has nothing to do with a heart attack. You've told me yourself you spent a good deal of time today watching the news for any updates. You told me that you were using your arm as a pillow. Now what that does is cut off circulation... no, the news does not do it, the weight of your head does it. Since you did not rise at the first sign of numbness, this matter has had a while to form. The feeling will return to your arm shortly, and it isn't going to feel very good. But that will end soon as well, and then everything will be back to normal. Until then, if you like, you may sit in the waiting room. We have no place for you to sit in an exam room. No. If you don't wish for me to kick you out of the hospital entirely, you will wait where I tell you. Thank you."

Hannibal turned away from the woman, shaking his head. He'd known that the people born of this place weren't exactly the smartest creatures ever, but this was a new low. Stubbed toes and lightly bumped heads, and all of them nutjobs.

He could only be thankful that the people the City had brought in were not this dense.

He stepped into a supply closet to get a moment of peace.

Hank gave a small laugh which was almost completely devoid of humor, slumping slightly in his chair.

He'd done it, really done it. Completely mutated himself into some kind of monster when all he'd wanted was normal sized feet. He didn't think that would have been too much to ask, he wouldn't have even minded if they're retained thier shape somewhat, been another overlookable oddity like Hannibal's hand. But even that was out of reach now, it would seem.

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his legs and thinking long and hard about what had happened. There was one bit of information which, at the very least, told him he hadn't screwed up too horrendously.

"It looks like the gene would have continued to mutate on its own anyway. I would have eventually wound up like... this. The serum merely sped up the process. I suppose... ripped it off like a bandaid."

He stood and stretched, turning away from the screens. "A feral, beastly bandaid."

"There's precious little comfort in that." Hannibal looked at Hank. "You don't know if it would have happened in minutes or years."

It wasn't a helpful thought, and Hannibal didn't think that dwelling was going to do any good, but his frustration wouldn't be denied. He was still a little disappointed in Hank for going ahead with this without help. He wouldn't go so far as to say that Henry had gotten what he deserved, and certainly not out loud, but he felt that some logic with the 'what ifs' should be remembered.

"We could find another mutant and inject them to see if it does anything." It was a cruel idea to do to somebody else, and Hannibal was quite sure that if Hank knew any other mutants, he would not agree to it. But he couldn't help but wonder what the effects would be on another one of his kind, from his world, with this x gene.

"What shall we do with you now that we know we cannot fix this?"

"You don't have to remind me," Hank said bitterly. He was tired, and sore, and now very hurt by the situation which he'd caused himself. He walked to the side, pacing for a moment, then looked over sharply as Hannibal proposed administering the cure to another.

"Absolutely not. But if you're so curious we could shoot you up and see if you sprout another few fingers," he snarled. Then he stopped walking and put a hand up to his forehead, pinching the bridge of his now much wider nose. "I'm sorry. That was... tasteless. But no, if anything I'd sooner destroy this research than have it used against any other."

He walked back to his seat and sat heavily. "There's nothing for it. Either I begin work on another cure, which would probably take me many more years, or I give up. Or I learn to live with it, which I would have to do to some degree even if I threw myself into the project twenty four hours a day."

Hannibal held up his hand and looked at it. Trying to combat Hank's irritation, he said "Perhaps I could sprout one directly out of the center of my forehead."

He watched his now-forever-blue friend as he paced and struggled. When the other doctor sat, Hannibal considered the options given. The first cure hadn't worked. It had done directly the opposite of what had been intended. What were the chances of a second being what was needed and not something that caused a reaction that was worse?

Already a lot of Hank's life had been spent trying to change what he was and being uncomfortable with himself.

"I think it's time that you learned to accept and love what your physical shape has become. You have not changed internally, it is only your outer packaging that you need to come to terms with. I believe that if you are more at ease with this, that others will be as well. If you go about your life as if you are no different, then it is going to be few who feel the need to point it out to you that you do not look as you once did.

"It is a psychological barrier that you are going to have to jump over. Or plow through. However you wish to do it. But the sooner that it happens, the better off you are going to be."

"It's not merely external. My psyche has changed. The instincts, the urges that were there before... they're much more powerful now. I went... feral must be the word for it, when I changed, and woke up in a decimated, half-eaten butcher shop with a sociopahtic vampire. Who knows if I hurt anybody when I was let loose on the City," Hank stood up and shook his head, letting out a frustrated sound.

He was quiet for a moment, then growled softly. "I may be able to, in time, accept this. Maybe. I'll have to try, because I haven't another choice. But that's a long shot in and of itself. Don't even bring up the idea of enjoying it, please, you're wasting your breath."

Hannibal decided not to argue the semantics of psyche with the scientist until he was more used to the way that he looked. Hannibal knew quite well that the feelings Hank had, the beastly, feral animalistic feelings, were present in every human being. He knew very well that it could be brought out in a number of ways.

These were things to tell a more centered man, however.

"Vampire." Hannibal frowned a moment. "This is the second encounter with a vampire that has left you feeling perturbed. I'm going to hazard a guess that it was the same one, as it seems unlikely that you would have the same reaction to two different vampires."

He thought about this. "You seem so angry at this vampire, and yet he's left you unharmed both times that you've encountered him. From your first meeting, it sounded to me as if he could have done what he pleased with you and did not. What about this one? Was he merely nearby when you awoke, or did he provoke you in some way?"

A dramatic shift in the conversation might do Henry some good. Plus it might also get him some more information on this vampire he meant to ask Lestat about.

"Yes, it was the same. And now his powers have grown, he can walk about in sunlight," Hank sighed, rubbing his forehead. "A new development, according to him, though he'd not explain the nature of the change to me."

He leaned back in his seat, pondering the question.

"I do not know why he was there. He was watching me, he'd followed me into the shop, apparently, but... he didn't want much except to see what I was doing. He picked up on who I was and then insisted on following me around till I came here, citing "public safety" as his concern." It had been unbelievably frustrating when Hank had just wanted to get away from him. "I seriously doubt he actually cared about anything." He shook his head and then let out a breath.

"He angered me the first time we met. But perhaps if I had any inclination he meant well I could have overlooked that after this meeting. But he is evil, and abuses people as he likes. He has abused my friends, and as long as he is around nobody is truly safe, especially now that he can go wherever he likes."

Hannibal took in the idea of a vampire who could walk in the day and decided tha sooner rather than later, he needed to find Lestat. This was something, somebody, that his immortal friend should know about. Hannibal conisdered, though, that he might already. This creature didn't seem the type to hide himself.

"His physiology changed?" He realized Hank had said that the nature hadn't been reveald to him, but there was a chance that the scientist had gleaned some truth anyway. "It didn't seem to you to be a spell, or an item of some sort?"

This was purely the medical part of Hannibal that wished to know. He wondered if the City had done this somehow. But for what end? The City did like to put challenges in front of those it had brought, but this seemed outright dangerous in a way the City had never previously been.

"I can't say what his true intentions were, obviously. But it sound to me asif he has taken an interest in you. Something you do not enjoy, and I cannot blame you. But even through his cruelty, it sounds as if he did something helpful for you. Finding out what he is thinking seems important, if you think you could get him to be honest."

Hannibal had a strange inkling that Henry wasn't through with the vampire, no matter how much he wanted to be. Thus discovering the desires of the creature could only be helpful. Looking at it from his own unique view, having an idea of a violent creature's motvations gave one the upper hand. Refusing to know that creature's innermost thoughts took one down a path of confusion and frustration, possible pain and death.

"He abuses people, you have said. How many has he harmed? What were the situations of each? What did he do to them specifically, and how? You need to form an absolute complete picture. If you do not, you may underestimate him, or misjudge something and provoke him further. I don't wish to see you harmed, Henry. It would make me very upset. Please, take great care dealing with this vampire, don't let your frustration with him cloud your mind. I am not a foolish man, but I would confront anything that did you harm."
