This is awesome! (River)
It didn't penetrate Jensen's brain that there was something different about the City right away. He stopped to get a ginormous cup of coffee and a bag of powdered donuts without the street changing while he was in the shop, but it wasn't until he'd crossed three intersections that he realized nothing had changed randomly. Period. At all. When it finally did sink in he stopped in place to look around...it might have been better if he hadn't stopped in the middle of the road, but he knew the cars with the blaring horns would swerve around him.

"....whoa.."

That was when he decided to test this out. He pulled up a City map on the laptop he was carrying, plotted out a route to the City library then implemented it. When he got to his destination without having to replot his course even once he stood looking at the stairs to the entrance and burst out laughing.

"This is so awesome!"

River'd noticed it, too.

Nothing was moving. There was no sense of that disorientation everyone had to fight. River always fought it too, though less than most. If you could read minds, finding out where things had gotten to was a lot easier. Someone always knew.

She knew, too, when her new friend was ready to see her, and headed over to the library without incident.

River was sitting on the stairs when Jensen arrived, and giggled, and smiled up at him when he made his outburst.

"Hi!" Jensen grinned at River, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Beautiful day, isn't it?"

Any day when he didn't end up in front of a catholic church instead of the bar he was aiming for was a good day.

River arched a brow. It was nice. There were other places she thought were prettier, other places far away from the City.

Her eyes went to the huge cup of coffee in his hand.

"More?"

He grinned and lifted his cup as if in toast. "It's a new day. Yesterday's coffee is but a memory. Tomorrow's is just a dream. But now," he pointedly took a long drink then made a yummy face and noise, "this coffee is manna from heaven."

River arched an eyebrow. She thought again of the amount of caffeine which could kill a human being, and wondered how often her new friend here danced just shy of that line.

She got to her feet and looked around at the City, and its lack of motion. She would have to talk to Hannibal about this. He would certainly have something to say.

"What was it you wanted me to see?" she asked.

She was already heading for the library door.

He'd probably come closer to having too much than he realized, but then being in the special ops even as the comm specialist he'd come close to death more than was normal anyway.

"In case you hadn't noticed, something is different about the City, and I have a weird idea." He beamed a smile to the odd little woman. "Thought maybe you'd help."

"I did notice," River said over her shoulder. She stopped moving, hand on the door. "It should all be moving."

There were literally tons of people thinking about it, too. River could hear about it, from every direction. She was trying to bear in mind what Harry had taught her, but she was having a hard time with it just now. There was so much going on in people's heads.

A weird idea. He was weird.

"Help how?"

"Well." He hefted around the carry case he had over his shoulder. "You said you were good with computer programs, right? I want to start a mapping program, one that could predict shifts and patterns if or when the streets go back to their shifty ways."

He grinned and waggled his brows feeling kind of clever having come up with this idea.

Good was an understatement, but all River did was arch her eyebrow.

She turned around completely, now, skirt brushing across her shins with a rustle.

"You want to predict the City's movements?" She shook her head, a slight smile on her face "It's actions are erratic and... nonsense."

She shrugged her little shoulders. "I'll help you, but I'm not sure it can be done."

"Maybe they are and maybe they aren't." He wagged a finger at her with a proud little smirk. "I won't know until I observe the behavior. Besides. When will I get a chance like this again?"

Even if it didn't pan out when the City went back to the way it used to be, the idea had to have merit somewhere. He was just sure of it. "Shall we take over a room in the library then?"

River actually didn't think the City's actions were total nonsense. She had a theory about the place, that it was cognizant. She was certain she'd discussed this with Hannibal, at least.

'Observe the behavior' sounded like something Hannibal would say, or Simon.

River smiled broadly.

She nodded at his suggestion, then vanished back through the door she'd been standing in front of. The librarian waved at her as she passed, and River waved back. She'd spent a lot of time in this place. There were conference rooms available for student study groups.

River was heading for them.

Wow that smile just kind of lit up her face when she decided to let it out. It really was a big change from that stoic almost blatant look of confusion he'd seen her wear.

Then she was off and running and Jensen had to stretch his legs to catch up. Seemed like everything about her was sudden. When she made up her mind to do something she did it without holding back. That was a refreshing change from a lot of the people Jensen had met.

He followed and even waved to the librarian whether or not she approved or even saw him.

River waited in the room, moving a few chairs around so that the table was less cluttered. The room had a projector in the corner and a shade drawn, as though someone had been working on a presentation and left it. By the time Jensen caught up, she was sitting at the edge of one of those chairs, waiting.

He'd have to set up.

"Any prediction would need complex algorithms," River mused, to no one in particular.
