Jo gave Dean a severe look. She had a feeling that not yelling at Fred might still entail some sort of uncomfortable conversation with Dean and Fred.
"I've been hunting even without her help," she added. "Not much yet, since I'm still learning my way around. But working with Fred just means that it's more likely someone will know if I go on a job and need back up."
She liked Fred and she didn't want to mess up whatever friendship Fred and Dean had just because Fred had stuck her neck out to invite Jo to work with her.
There was a little pang of disappointment when he let her go but she reminded herself that it was better really. Whatever she might have felt for him didn't mean that she wanted to get in the way of someone else's relationship. And it was a whole lot easier to remind herself that he probably didn't see her that way when he wasn't standing quite so close, holding onto her.
"I'll see you around then. You know you're always welcome to stop in for a drink," she said with a crooked smile before she turned and found the doorknob.
