Muzak is good for the soul (open)
"...whoa." Jensen looked around himself at the kind of posh, upscale shopping center. There were more than a couple of reasons he was out of place. The least of which was the pink Petunias tshirt he was wearing, but it could be the gun he had in his hand, the comm headset in his ear. Y'know. The little things. Hastily he tucked the gun into his pants in the small of his back and touched the button on the comm bud. "Clay. Clay it's Jensen and this really isn't funny. Clay?"

He gave his best charming smile to a middle aged woman who was walking by giving him the stink eye and replayed the last twenty minutes of his life. Miami. Shipyards. A drug cartel expecting a shipment of the latest product, a portion of the proceeds of which were finding their way into certain state government officials. But the last expected payment had gone awry (Thank you, Jensen. Oh, you're very welcome! No, really. That redirection of funds by scattering it into the public school systems of Miami-Dade county was the most beautiful piece of genius we have ever seen. Stop it! You're embarrassing me!) so the governor himself was going to be at the docks to meet the shipment to find out why. Threats to be delivered and all that. Meanwhile the Losers were set up to take down both the drug runners and expose the governor.

There was a sleek black car. A forklift moving a load of cargo boxes. Some south of the border looking men, a well dressed white bread guy getting out of the car and it was show time. Jensen and Pooch moved into position. Pooch went around the freight container first then Jensen...only when he rounded the corner he came out from a set of planters with artfully trimmed topiary trees, gun aimed on some socialites out buying new shoes with price tags in the triple digits. To say Jensen was confused would be a mild understatement.

"...Clay?"

Logan blinked at the fact that the guy had very apparently missed the sarcasm entirely. He seemed a bit disoriented, and... suddenly Logan realized why.

"You must be new to the City."

If that was the case, the guy was taking it better than he had so far. Though he might not have realized that he had ended up somewhere else yet.

"Whatever gave you that idea?" Boy genius was being needy. Maybe he didn't have many friends. Or maybe he was enjoying watching Jensen walk away. That made Jensen stop and turn around to see where the kid's eyes were. He tried to look at his own butt then back to Genius with an expression that didn't quite scream You better not.

Logan's eyes were most definitely above the belt, thank you. He locked eyes with the guy who was awfully uppity considering that stupid pink shirt that he was wearing.

"Oh gee, I don't know-the fact that you're in the middle of a shopping mall with a gun and you seem like you don't know where the hell you are."

He smirked.

"Welcome to the City, which might or might not be some sort of wonky afterlife. I haven't decided yet. The streets move, weird shit happens all the time and you're pretty much stuck here."

So perhaps Logan wasn't the best welcome wagon around, but he could certainly take his snark and dish it right back.

He stared at this guy as he rambled possibly more than Jensen typically did. Pooch would want to shoot him in under a minute. Hell, Jensen might just shoot him yet.

Then the ramble went into the decidedly weird and Jensen's opinion changed. He sighed and took a step back towards Sooper Genius then gave him a patronizing smile. "You never saw those this is your brain on drugs commercials did you? It isn't pretty. Do yourself a favor while you still have all your teeth and get clean. Hmm?"

Logan was half-tempted to just spout off another snarky comment and leave the guy there. But he wasn't a complete jackass, and he knew exactly how it felt to wind up in the City.

"Where do you think you are?" he asked, with a lot less attitude than he had been spouting off before.

Fortunately, there was a rack of newspapers nearby. Logan inserted the money for one and handed the copy of The City Voice over to the guy.

He blinked slowly then muttered under his breath as Genius walked away. "I have no idea." What? He wasn't about to admit that to someone he never met before even if he was certain the guy wasn't an operative of any sort.

He sighed when Genius came back and took the newspaper, giving it a shake to flatten it out. "Huh." It had today's date. "Which city?"

"The City. Capital C," Logan said.

"I know," he added. "It's like one of those 'who's on first?' jokes. Only not funny at all."

He looked over at Jensen, hoping for the guy's sake that that ridiculous pink shirt was just a practical joke of the City's.

"Might want to check your pockets. If you're lucky, there may be a key in there. Possibly an ATM card for The First Bank of the City. Of course, when I first got here I was stuck in campus housing with $25 dollars to my name but from what I hear the City's usually kinder to it's new residents.

He looked back to the guy, dropping the Genius title in his head. He seemed to helping. Or willing to help. Whether or not he was helpFUL remained to be seen but Jensen was willing to give it a shot.

"I like 'who's on first' jokes." He handed the newspaper back and began a search of his pockets. It resulted in a new key on his keychain as suggested and a look into his wallet produced the promised ATM card. "First Bank of the City." He looked back to the guy. "Really. The City? Does it belong to the marvelous nation of The Land which rules with a benevolent hand on The Planet? I could keep going."

Logan smirked. He definitely could appreciate the guy's sense of humor.

"Nope, just the City. As far as I can tell, that's all there is here. I'm Logan, by the way. And, uh, sorry to be the bearer of bad news."

"Jensen." He looked befuddled. No one did befuddled quite as well as Jensen did. It even came with movements, like him looking around, his mouth gaping slightly until culminating in him turning in a small circle.

"This is...really happening." He went back to his PDA to bring up a GPS app. "Is this near Miami?"

"Afraid so," Logan gave the guy a sympathetic look. Yes, he was capable of those every so often.

"It's nowhere near anything," he said. "Though there are parts of a lot of cities here. But it's just The City. Surrounded by a gigantic wall with no way out."

This time a little bit of incredulous disbelief entered his expression and he shook his head a little bit.

"Call for air support and extraction. Once upon a time back in a magical place called Kitty Hawk they built this nifty new contraption called an airplace."

"Oh gee, why didn't I think of that? So glad you're here to save us all." Logan said sarcastically.

"There is no flying out of here. Doesn't work that way."

"Well I don't know, Logan." He blatantly looked Logan up and down in open judgment. "No offense but you're sporting the Abercrombie look too much to lead me to believe that your grandest strategy scheme has risen above bar hopping." He smiled.

Logan shrugged. He didn't exactly take offense to that.

"Trust me when I say that a few weeks here, you'll be bar hopping too. This place screws with your head."

His brows lifted as he shrugged in return, a self-depricating smile forming. "I don't think anyone would notice a difference in me really."

He chuckled then rubbed at the back of his head, looking around. "So...The City. This is...I need intel."

Logan laughed.

"Good luck with that." He handed over a Caritas card. "When you're ready for that drink, feel free to drop in."

He had given the guy plenty to go on to start with, but he wasn't exactly intel-guy when it came to the City or anywhere else. If anything, that was Veronica's department. And if Veronica hadn't found a way out of here, then he was fairly confident that there wasn't one.

"I didn't say I didn't want a drink." He took the card, turned it around then tucked it into his back pocket. "Tell me where I can get some wifi connection. Library maybe?"

"Might want to try Starbucks," Logan suggested. "Though the library would probably have it too. I wouldn't know."

He wasn't much of a reader, after all. And he had better things to do than sit on the internet in a library.

He turned in place with his PDA looking for a signal. "What, you don't pirate porn off of an open broadband like everybody else?" There weren't many strong connections in this immediate location. Stupid open air shopping center.

"So about that bar?" He raised his brows and looked at Logan. "Do they have cable or satellite tv?"

Logan shook his head and laughed.

"No, some of us have private internet for our porn collection. And girlfriends, so less of a need for the porn altogether."

He raised an eyebrow at the question about what the bar had to offer.

"Satellite TV. Why?"

He looked solidly at Logan for a moment as if he'd sprouted a third eye. "Yeah right. Nobody needs porn but we all go there anyway." He put his hand on the other man's shoulder in mock seriousness. "Deny it to me if you must, but brother." He choked on the last word and gripped his shoulder more. "Don't deny it to yourself. Admitting it is the first step of acceptance."

He grinned and let go of Logan's shoulder. "Satellite you say? Perfect. Lead on."
