Hank was just about to drift off again in the middle of a passage about the effects of a synthesized gene blocker on the DNA when he heard somebody addressing an elderly person. It was close by, however, so he looked up.... to see another young man looking at him.
Hank blinked in confusion, then turned from one side to another, but there was nobody else close by to be mistaken.
"Pardon?" he asked, leaning back. Perhaps his confidence in recent weeks had taken a general upward swing, but he still had difficulty when confronted by men his own age, or a bit older, staring at him with that mocking look. In the back of his mind Hank marveled at his own insecurity, but there wasn't much he could do about it, especially when he was already exhausted. "Er.... sorry. Do I know you?"
