Jack was very nervous at Fred getting in between him and Rufio yet again. He took a few steps to shield her, just in case the boy decided to attack. Of course, Rufio seemed to want a fair fight, which he at least appreciated. Though he still wasn't going to fight a young boy, and he certainly wasn't going to kill anyone.
"This boy attacked me in the park. I defended myself," Jack told Fred quietly. "I believe he's angry because I disarmed him and then walked away."
He turned back to Rufio.
"I did not wimp out. I showed mercy. I won't take any unnecessary lives."
He could see his campaign manager on the side of the stage trying to signal him in some way. He could also see the grimace as his words carried over the crowd.
