"No offense meant. You just never know. Especially here. And I'm pretty sure all relationships are complicated. Haven't come across one that isn't."
He gave her a self-deprecating smile.
"Of course, I could just have bad luck."
He poured himself a glass of soda and held it up to her.
"So here's to rotten luck and complicated relationships, eh?"
