Displaced [open]
What the...?

Where the...?

This wasn't New York. Which was precisely where he thought he was supposed to be. It was where he intended to go when he left the Underground, at any rate. It wasn't exactly like he wasn't familiar with the destination where he could be mistaken. No, Jareth knew New York -had been there on many occasions. It was not some place foreign to him.

This... place. This was not New York. This was some place else altogether. Well, that was wholly inconvenient. As was his clothing. Jareth looked down and frowned. Apparently when he transported this time, he'd neglected to change into something more low key. Something to fit in with the surroundings. After all, if one was going to take in a show in New York, one should look as the locals do.

Displaced and dressed as he would at his castle in his lands, he scowled. This was more than inconvenient. It was unacceptable. Well, he'd just try again.

A moment later he found himself back in the same place he had been standing. Under a street light, glittering and glowing, looking very much like his normal otherworldly self. He wasn't one for cursing, but there were a few choice words rolling around in the back of his mouth just begging to come forth. This was not how things worked for him. He was the Goblin King, he had powers beyond comprehension of those he encountered on his own terms, enough to cause his subjects to fear him, and for some reason he wasn't able to control them.

At least not to New York. Fine. Then he'd just return to the Underground -to his Labyrinth and his castle.

Jareth disappeared again, reappearing in the same spot as before. Inconvenient, unacceptable and unpalatable. He needed to be able to leave this place and for some reason, he wasn't able to leave. It was as if there was power deliberately keeping him in this foreign City. Nor was he able to change, something he discovered after a few failed attempts.

That, at least, he could deal with.

He snorted in disgust at being unable to leave, crossed his arms and looked about to see if there was anyone around he could inquire about where he was and just what in the name of himself was going on.

She paid him a small smile, her professional smile. So he must have been new. Then again, Cameron didn't know much about where she was either. This City with no name but called the City. This place with no exit that could be used when you felt like it, or ever. NO one could leave. Strange things kept happening. Zombies. Godzilla. A queen and some castle.

Really weird place.

"You must be new. This city is called The City. Just that. It's neither here nor there. There's no exit. At least none that I've discovered. You could drive out and you'd just drive right back into the City again. It defies all logic." She seemed a bit bothered by that fact. Defying logic, and reason. And normal laws.

"Apparently it holds all sorts of people, from books, movies, television... fantasy. It's strange really, I'm quite sorry you're stuck here too Sir." Cameron was sick of being here, herself.

"I'm Doctor Allison Cameron, I work in the hospital here, but then I'm not from here either. I'm from New Jersey."

River never ever needed a GPS. Not to find the place where Simon and Hannibal were.

The hospital was closer than Dr. Cameron realized. River smirked, rounding a corner. She intended to drop in on her brother for lunch. There was a real, live, legitimate Mandarin restaurant nearby that made a favorite of his just like, occasionally, you could find in the Core. She was salivating a little just thinking of the fresh dumplings.

Her eyebrow raised.

"A king," she said, to no one in particular.

Now she could see the two of them, as she got closer, and her head tilted.

"The City?" He asked. That had a very omnipotent quality to it, by just calling it The City. And Jareth was none to fond of the ridiculous idea that it just sort of pulled people into it's limits without consultation or permission. Or being allowed to leave. That part sat heavy in his gut. What exactly did this Doctor Allison Cameron mean by there not being any exit.

Most unsettling.

Jareth was more than just unsettled. While he looked calm and collected, inside was a panic building. A need to get out, get away. If he was trapped her, what would become of his kingdom? It would fall into further disrepair than he had already allowed it to.

This was no good at all. And now there was another woman approaching. A curious looking woman. Probably because of how he was dressed. There was no way that was not going to draw attention to himself. Perhaps once he was more accustomed to his environment that would be such an issue, but right now, it made him feel... on display.

Which wouldn't be so bad if he felt he had any control in what he did as far as leaving. It defies logic, Doctor Cameron had said. Defied logic. That was something Jareth was accustomed to, but not in this world. Defying logic was something he normally did on a regular basis.

Now came the awkward silence while he tried to decide how to introduce himself. Proper thing to do, in his world, would be to have his titles and ranks speak for him, without giving out his given name. However, he wasn't particularly certain he wanted to do that here. Not yet, anyway. "Jareth," he said. "What do you mean there's no exit? Is there no way to leave at all?"

Cameron didn't know the other woman who was now approaching, but didn't seem uncomfortable about it. People just kept springing up around here. She was used to it. Then again, she used to live near a big city and it never seemed like there was a deserted corner there. It was stranger when there was no one around. Of course this.. Jareth wasn't exactly dressed to be in a city, was he?

"The City." She nodded.

"There's exits, but they all lead back in. At least, all of them that I've tried. And everyone I've talked to says there's no way out. Some of them don't want out, some of them think they're dead in the real world, or whatever their world is." Cameron seemed a bit more nervous about the fact that some people believed they were dead, or really that some people were imaginary. Cameron was still trying to get around the idea that she might not be real.

She had to be real.

River kept going to the hospital, shaking her head as she went.

Cameron was not real. Cameron was not, and Jareth was not, and Hannibal was not, and Simon was not, and River was not. River understood this and had come to terms with it; so, she knew, had Dr. House before he'd disappeared.

The girl sighed, pushing the glass sliding door idly open as she moved past the talking pair.

Jareth shook his head, trying to absorb everything Doctor Allison Cameron was telling him. The strange woman had left nearly as quickly as she arrived and he decided she wasn't worth fretting over. Obviously she didn't seem all that put off by him or his presence.

In fact, the only one who seemed at all put out was Jareth himself. He really didn't like the notion that there was no way out of this City. That he was stuck here. Where was he going to stay? What was he going to wear? To eat? To do? This was a very odd situation and he didn't like it one bit.

"Dead?" He said before thinking it through fully. Some people were dead in their previous states to coming here, that was most unsettling. Jareth wasn't dead. He was real and alive and just in a place that shouldn't be. This wasn't right. He should either be back at his castle or in New York. One of the two. Not some strange place that wasn't a place after all but a type of prison.

It had to be a prison of it was keeping him captive.

"This does not sit well."

"I apologize, that was not very tactful of me. I should have sat you down before hand." Cameron looked uneasy.

She was suppose to help people, not make people worry.

"It's just a lot to take in. I'm still having a problem with it myself. It's just.. well it's better to know now, I suppose. Rather than later. They don't exactly leave you a pamplet to help you deal with it either." Cameron glanced over her shoulder, watching where the girl went. There was the hospital.

But she didn't feel like dealing with work, and much as she felt guilty for unloading all of those problems onto Jareth.

"I could buy you a drink? It might not help, but it won't exactly hurt either."

Jareth was taken aback. Such a bold woman. They'd only just met, he was distressed by his circumstances and she wanted to buy him a drink? That was definitely bold. Perhaps a bit tactless. Though not nearly as tactless as the delivery of news she'd given him that he'd be stuck here.

Then again, alcohol was definitely welcome. It might make this whole situation more palatable. At the very least, it would dull the senses and relax him a bit before he made the decision of what to do. Jareth was not the type to be resigned to his fate. He sought to change it, to bend the world to his will. He would not sit by as a prisoner of some... City.

Deciding that going with her would be the best course of action, it would at least get him out of the street light's ethereal glow, Jareth nodded once. Just a single nod of affirmation.

Jareth needed to think and soon. There were going to be things he'd need to do and to acquire and he'd have to think of ways to do that.
